Better MPG today
« on: May 15, 2010, 04:54:49 PM »
I had a new front tire with a rounder profile installed and found a station selling gasoline without ethanol.  I achieved a personal record of 20 more miles on the main tank before hitting reserve.  I am stoked about it.  I did not ride any differently, just noticed that I had more miles on trip meter.  Note that this was not my CB, but still I got 185 miles before reserve and made it to 201.1 before filling up.  I had always wanted to see the 200 mile mark.  Overall great day, beautiful ride of 330 miles and found some fantastic motorcycle roads that I had never travelled.

The tire for the record is a Shinko 712.  It is the same size (100/90-16) as the stock Dunlop, but is noticeably rounder which I suppose gives a lower rolling resistance.

That's interesting, and good to hear.  I wonder if the difference in rubber compounds could have made the change too.  I know there are Low Rolling Resistance (LRR) tires for cars, but I'm not sure what makes them lower rolling resistance.
Doesn't a ride on the SOHC on a nice day just make you happy?  ;D

I put shinkos on my 750f. They seem like a good tire. Ive only got About 900 miles on them. Starting to trust them  more and more. Been doing so much tuning I cant say my mileage yet. But it mops my 55 for mileage for sure!

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

It was on my 2000 Harley SuperGlide that I ride all the time.  It has almost 30,000 miles on the engine.  Previous best distance on main tank was 165.  The front tire did take a little getting used to the handling with the different profile.  At parking lot speeds it wants to weave a little.

Not to sound like candidate (At the time) Obama, but are you sure that it didn't have something to do with the fact that the tires were new, and properly inflated?  An even slightly under inflated tire will not roll as easily as a full one.
