A friend of mine got divorced and bought a bottle of Macallan 18 year old he said it was $125 a bottle. I drank a quarter of it and he drank the rest. I'm no expert but this was the best I ever had. My friend Matt doesn't remember how it tasted so he says he wants to get another bottle and its my turn to buy. Well why not!

mmmmmm..... Macallan's

Tasty, tasty, Macallan's

I should've known this thread would take on a life of its own. ::) ;D

Going shopping tomorrow, so I'll see what I can find.  Thanks for all the suggestions!

Step up to some Yukon Jack (for those hoary nights) if you got the stones.

If you can find it, try Brora. The distillery closed around 20 years ago but there is still some of the final bottling available, 20 and 30 year old. The 20 is very good indeed. Also you can't go wrong with a Longrow or Springbank of pretty much any age...

For me the one that I drink if I've had a good day is Oban 14 year old, it's smooth, smoky and (warm?) but if you want a treat try typing Berry Bros and Rudd into your search engine and yes if I ever win the lottery I'll take a trip through Scotland in a vintage Rolls with driver and hit all the distilleries and brewery's.

Jeez Grumpy, Suntory I bought a bottle of Old Suntory Japanese Scotch 40+ years ago in California when I lived there, was "interesting" but wasn't Scotch as I knew it.

I had a small glass of Port (the real stuff) about 7 years ago that was bottled in 1964.

It set on the tounge, and tasted of perfect mild wild honeyish bliss.................then COMPLETELY disappeared from taste/smell/liquid sensation the instant it passed the back of your tounge, the craziest, most perfect thing.

Anyway, sorry for the derail!

I know it's Irish, but Jameson's is hard to beat.

Something totally different for any closeted cheapskates - er frugal people out there.  If you like Canadian whisky, try Canadian Hunter.  MUCH better than many brands costing two or three times the price.

Cheers

Oh yeah. Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Wild Turkey are very popular. You can see all the brands and who make them. Many of the individual brands are owned by larger distillers.  http://liquor.suite101.com/article.cfm/bourbon_brands
