What the heck did I just buy?
« on: January 30, 2006, 09:27:44 AM »
The petcock came in today.  I may be missing something, but it doesnt look like a happy marriage.  I've got a 550K tank, was the F tank mounting different or was it just a bogus description?

Yikes!  What does the other end (the tank side, I'm assuming) look like?

The tank's a purdy purple finished with only the very best Krylon paint, from Wal-Mart I'm sure.  I found out that not only does 'The Works' work on the inside, but also on the lovely paint job as well.  It's an extra that I'm just playing around with while waiting for my brake parts to arrive.

The petcock was advertised as a CB550 (albeit a '74; which I thought was the same tank as '75).  However, it sure don't look like it will fit.  I wonder what it's for.

Looking at my parts fiche for a 1975 CB550K1....they show 2 types of petcocks.....the one you need and the one you've got.

There must have been a early and late model year run, on the tanks.

Thats a first....never seen that....WEIRD!

Well if it won't match up to my newly acquired '69 CB175 tank (I'll find out when I get it home), anyone want or need it?

That's the kind of petcock on my 1974 CB550.
Your tank must be a later version or something different?

Well, it was advertised as a '74 550, stupid me thought they had the same tanks.  Anyone need one of these?  Trade?

The petcock you got will fit 500/550/750 up to about 74
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I just got my '69 CB175 today!  And, the petcock looks very similar to the one in question, albeit a little smaller.  But the same oval mounting.  I may be able to use it on the new bike.

Cant remember exactly.....but I think the CB175 only has one mounting screw, not two.

I'll check....

..yep...only one screw.

I have a 74 and 75 550. 74 is old style with 2 mounting screws. 75 is threaded into the tank.
