Can a rear hub from a '76 K be used on a '76 F?
« on: May 09, 2010, 07:30:14 PM »
Hi all,

I have two F1 bikes, but don't have a K model to compare the rear wheel/hub to.  Can the drum brake parts from the K hub be removed and the disk brake rotor parts from the F transferred to the K hub?  I assume that Honda would have made a common hub with different inserts for the drum or disk brake, wonder if my suspicion is true.  I also assume that the front wheel/hub on the K is the same as my F wheel/hub.

I need someone to tell me if I buy a '76 K model parts bike with mag wheels if I can transfer the mag wheels to my '76 F.

Thanks,
Holubs

The F models had rear disk brakes, the rear K Models all had drums.  You can swap the two but it is necessary to change the brake system, which can be a little tricky.

Lots of threads here about converting the K to a rear disk if you do a search.

Not a direct swap, spoked drum hubs were different than spoked disk brake hubs. The latter being a fairly rare part, sorry.

Cycle exchange does however have a conversion kit that will convert the drum wheel to disk brake, but it's not a stock appearing conversion.

Not as a direct swap. If you look at the 2 bikes you will see that the brakes in the rear are different.
Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

that kit looks killer. I like drums in the back, though. I prefer them actually. crazy, huh.

but only with good front discs.

Thanks for the replies.  I had hope that the hubs would swap, that would be too easy.  Looks like I need to look for an "F" model with Lester Wheels on it.
