Oh, the irony is too much to ignore....
« on: May 12, 2010, 05:56:55 PM »
 Copied from a news article

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) says he has a simple solution to stop employment discrimination against gay people, and it sounds a lot like "don't ask, don't tell.

During a discussion Tuesday with the Family Research Council's Tony Perkins on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), legislation designed to prohibit workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, King called the bill a "violation of the individual rights of employers to, at their own discretion, decide who they want to hire, who they want to fire."

King relayed an anecdote that outlined his solution for the problem of workplace discrimination:

"Let me ask you a question. Am I heterosexual or am I homosexual?" And they looked him up and down, actually they should have known, but they said, "We don't know." And he said, "Exactly, my point. If you don't project it, if you don't advertise it, how would anyone know to discriminate against you?" And that's at the basis of this. So if people wear their sexuality on their sleeve and then they want to bring litigation against someone that they would point their finger at and say, "You discriminate."

Now the Family Research Council was just in the news recently....oh yeah,  founding member George Reker with his Rentboy.  So the solution is to just be a closeted self loathing homosexual like so many Republicans/Conservatives we have seen recently. Keep it secret.::)

well yeah.  Gays should be required to be closeted and self-loathing. Just like the good ol' days, right? ::)

One's sexual preferences should not be relevant to the workplace at all unless it makes people uncomfortable. I think most places have protocol in place to prevent uncomfortable sexual situations i.e. sexual harassment rules. I guess the other type of situation would be where open sexuality of whatever type or another conflicts with the employer's core values/mission.

Why don't we make gays wear some sort of patch (maybe a star of some sort could work) on their sleeve, so that we can make sure we don't accidentally discriminate against one.

That one will be saved for legal Hispanics immigrants in Arizona so they can then separate them from the illegal ones. ;)

People are screwed up anyway.  They want to legislate a definitive black and white us/them mentality when in reality it's a gradient AND has nothing to do with anything except what people do when they're off work and at home.
I want to challenge everyone to just go through their day and watch every time you have a conversation about your partner or just casually mention them, what pronoun you use.  DADT, yay! nothing like spontaneously forgetting and getting fun and interesting looks.

You mean they/their vs. he/she?

Side note:  I've noticed in the last couple of years, all the homosexual people I know switched from calling their S.O. "boyfriend" or "girlfriend" to the all-encompassing "partner".  It's just interesting because while that term does sound a little more permanent and mature for a relationship between two adults, it also sounds a lot less personal.

i have one gay friend up in colorado who still calls his boyfriend, his boyfriend.  i respect him more for doing that, and he doesn't have the rainbow bumper sticker or any other typical "markers" of homosexuality in today's world!  my girlfriend calls her girlfriend her partner; i asked why, and she said that down in houston, too many people look down upon it, including superiors at work and other places she needs to look "better" to upper management.  sad times!

they did tell me a funny joke though...  What does a lesbian bring to the 2nd date?  A U-Haul!!   :D :D  no offense meant for anyone, i'm hoping you get a laugh on that kit

nice rainbow picture there, very hot!

Another evangelical family values Republican congressman caught with his pants down.  This one even made an abstinence video with his mistress.  At least she is pretty good looking. ;D

Laugh at least once a day.
Life  $ucks, then you die.
You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.
God forces us to live with  non-believers to test our resolve.
