Physically removing clutch operated switch
« on: May 12, 2010, 08:28:45 AM »
Hi there - new here!

I just picked up a 1978 cb550K and in transit the bars got cranked down I guess and the clutch switch has been pulled out.  I have read a bunch of topics so no big deal there about removing completely... however I would like to add it back but mine will not just push back in.  It is showing a termination with the 2 wires exposed on the wire end and at the clutch section there is what looks to be a white nipple protruding (with 2 channels for each wire).  Can I just pull that nipple out of the clutch an replace the cable with a new one?  Again - I can;t just push the wire back... it won't go in!  It'll make contact but wont stay.  It also seems my turn signals and horn don't work without it connected... which makes no sense according to the wirign diagram.  I'll fiddle with that myself tonight.

Is there any specific process to pull this nipple out - or just grab it with the needlenose and pull.  Just don't want to damage anything internally as I see the switch is non accessible within the assembly.

Thanks!

Mike

I think you have to install the switch from the lever side.  Disconnect, remove the lever and insert the wires into the hole behind the lever area and pull them through until the switch seats. reconnect and put the lever back on.
All of this frome memory of a few years ago.... :-\
