The first two ship!!!
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:25:36 AM »
the first two F-35's are shipped!  AF-01 and AF-02!  now who wants a paint job like THAT???  methinks that's pretty damn cool, the Ti color and all, i might have to seriously re-consider my paint colors!!

i got the pics from a buddy who works for Lockheed Martin.  he just started his 2nd position within the company as a flight line engineer, testing/doing shakedowns of the flight systems from the cockpit before they're out on their first test flight.  so basically, he gets to go sit in the f-35 cockpit and run tests all day, powering engines up and down, playing with thrust vectoring, anything that has an electrical signal to it, he has to test its functionality...  some people man...

Nice pics!

It's really cool when you see the thrust vectoring in action.

do you have an electrical engineering degree?  or an aerospace?  if not, you'd probably have a hard time controlling all the computers.  they're hardly pilots in those anymore, just "flight engineers".  the planes basically fly themselves, and the pilot CAN step in if they want, but only in emergency situations.  my buddy talks to the pilots all the time, and a lot of them say they'd rather fly the heavies or an a-10.  or be a navy/marine pilot and fly an avenger or f/a-18.  the a-10 is the envy of almost every armed forces aviator, short of helicopter pilots, because it's the only one who doesn't have computers controlling everything.  just an auto pilot, and guidance/gps.  other than that, 100% hands on!

That and the fact that it is basically a tank with wings, those things are almost impossible to shoot down with all the armour they have.

Just read a news article about how we are now spending 6.7 billion a month in Afghanistan.  Now this expensive boondoggle to fight guys in caves.  It seems more likely developed to fight a war of the past with another superpower that ain't there. ::)

Hey we've got an airforce here in New Zealand, they're all about 20 years old and wrapped in plastic awaiting some goobers in the USA to buy them.....what do you do with 30 Strike master jets and 12 Air Machi jet trainers?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

the first picture makes it look quite fake, and then the countries flags next to the motor inlet look a bit odd.  also, whats up with that turquoise/greenish shape under the pilot on AF-01??

Wasteful military spending, that seems obvious.  About 1 trillion a year it accounts for about 50% or more  of all military spending worldwide.  What is the mission of this plane and what makes it so necessary?

I guess what you're questioning then is the effectiveness of the technology (we're not gonna get to understand it all due to security issues) and the necessity of high tech weaponry and/or a strong defense?  If we lay down our weapons and become weak, we'll be destroyed - history teaches us that.  Not to worry though, we're well on our way to that with us strengthening our enemies and weakening our country.

A10, the most requested aircraft in inventory. (by ground forces) I helped park one at our local air show, it was sinking into the blacktop so we parked it on plywood. I was amazed at how big it is.
