Longest roundtrip ride on an sohc4 honda
« on: January 31, 2006, 09:20:16 pm »
I have heard of some amazing sohc4 treks to south america and across continents by our very own easy riders...

I was wondering how many folks actually use these bikes for serious road trips?

I have been down to Rocky Point mexico and back and forth from AZ to Los Angeles a few times myself.

It was no continent crossing affair, but the longest single round-trip for me was Mich. to N.Y., about 750 mi. each way.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

From home-base in Minnesota, I've been to Maine, California, North Carolina, British Columbia and many places in-between. Most trips on a CB550K and a couple on a CB750F2. One blown fuse was the 550's only problem, the F2 has had a couple of carb related problems(always fixed en-route).

On my first 550 about 8 hours driving time, not sure of the milage, that was over 10 years ago.  With my "new" 550, about 100 miles.  Plan on some longer one this summer.

A one way trip from southern California back to Washington state, about 1200 miles. Only problem was once when I had to switch to reserve when I forgot to refuel, otherwise the K7 ran like a top.

In 2003  -Oxford England - Glasgow, Scotland - Holland - Germany - Austrian Alps - Italian Alps -Swiss Alps -Lichstenstein - Germnay - Czech Republic - Amsterdam - Oxford, England -Boston, USA (6500 miles, 2 weeks)

In 2004 - The SOHC Easy Rider Trip - LA - Grand Canyon - Colorado -New Mexico - Texas - Oklahoma - Arkansas - New Orleans - New York - Boston (5600 miles- 16 days)...see www.easyridertrip.de for the full story.

Looking forward to the next trip - Nova Scotia :-)

1975 CB750K with a full Vetter fairing from Media, PA to Asheville, NC for the Honda Hoot.  About 1200 miles round-trip over 6 days (two up and two down and two there).

Andy - If you're going all the way to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland has to be calling to you.  I'd love to make the trip now that you can ride all the way up the Labrador coast to Cartwright.

My longest trip was Austin, TX to Big Bend National Park back in '98 on an 81 KZ550 LTD.

About 1100 miles round trip plus a few hundred miles just riding around for a couple of days in the park.  That place is HUGE!

To date, my longest trip has been 347 miles round trip. I've only had my CB750K5 for a little over a year, so I've spent most of my time making repairs, doing maintenence, and prepping it for my "maiden voyage". This maiden voyage will consist of a 1070 mile trip around the perimeter of Kansas. It wont be too bad, since I know alot of people along this route if problems arise.

Thanks,

well, i'll probably get the award for lowest mileage roundtrip for longest round trip ever on a sohc4... but, it was a great father's day!  at least for me (and, probably dad as he was riding his ducati mh900 with less than 1000miles)

I rode down to Colorado Springs from Boulder, CO on the cb350f.  dad and i headed out to Cripple Creek, CO and some of the other great towns and twisties... stopped and gambled a bit in Cripple Creek and had a bite.  back into springs and on up to Boulder afterward... about 350 miles roundtrip!

Roundtrip Atlanta - Atlanta, crossing through 38 states over three months on a 1972 CB750K2 -- 12, 419 miles.  Leaky tranny gasket and a blown fuse, but no major problems.  I got the bike with 17K and just turned over 42K this last week.

From South Wales to circuit Paul Ricard for Bol D'Or in south of France plus driving (riding) around the  Mediterranean coast (St. Tropez, Nice, Cannes, etc)
Did it a couple of weeks after building 591 motor, was well run in by the time we got back ;D

I used to ride from Los Angeles to Davis, CA and back several times a year (800miles round trip) on my '72 350FOUR. Took a couple micro-naps en route the last few times. A friend of mine rode California to North Carolina and back a couple of times on his (later my) '76 750F. The 350 had a set screw on the throttle, a "cruise control" feature. I miss that.

There was me, thinking 650 miles to the Ace Cafe and back on a cafe race 400/4 in a weekiend was a big jaunt. Looks like I need practice....

So far I've put in just shy of 500 miles, but that was an all in one day loop.  I am hoping to make  to the Honda Homecoming this year, about 250 each way, and ride a little while I am there.

Just to show how much I trust a Honda I jumped on my CB650 after having bought it (with a cursory once-over) and rode it over the mountains from Vancouver to Kamloops, about 200 miles. Made it fine.

After some carb work and a replacement of the plug leads I then rode it 600 miles north (11+ hours with stops) to Fort St.John, to get to a new job. No problems.

I haven't made any long trips yet, but once I replace the RR, drive chain, sprockets (add a tooth on the front), battery, and add an oil cooler, I plan on driving it out to my parents farm. From Kansas City to Russell, KS, about 4 hours both ways. Not sure how many miles I've gone at once so far, but I have driven around for about 6 hours in a day, just enjoying the scenery.

We did an 800 mile weekend last summer, half of it in a torrential downpour.  Nicole performed like a champ the whole way.
