While the cop's judgement in this particular case is questionable (probably why he will get off, all that proof of guilt stuff) I deal at the prison with the scum my cop son rounds up off the street.
It's hard for Police to switch from busting down meth lab doors where cut down shotguns are the weapon of choice to helping old ladies across the street.
They go from chasing bank robbers to dragging families from burning cars, stopping dumbarse gang members from killing each other (though why they bother has always eluded me) to knocking on doors to inform parents that their child has just been scrapped off the road in his way too fast turboed Nissan.
I get in a fight at work maybe once a month, he works in a very bad area and is subdueing drunk/drugged violent people every night.
He doesn't like carrying guns that much although he is marksman rated, something to do with the fact that losing your weapon in a ground fight may get it turned on you, that plus the NZ Police insistance on hiring pretty young blonde females weighing 50 kilos dripping wet, how long do you think they are gonna keep their weapon in a fight.

Guess I'm just too affected by my close proximity to the problem but I'd hate to make some of those split second "does he have a weapon or not" judgement calls.
