rear bearing removal
« on: October 20, 2010, 02:10:44 AM »
ok, I've been searching around for a while on how to get the bearings out of the rear hub of my cb550, but havn't found a clear cut method without specialised tooling

What's the best way anyone has been getting them out?

Once they are out I can replace them and start relacing the wheels

If I found that thread a week ago, I probably would have saved a few hours getting the retainer undone haha

The bit I'm stuck at is getting the actual bearings out. They have the same inner diameter as the center spacer, so I've got nothing to grab on to when trying to knock it out.

Hey man! I had a B%tch of a time with mine too.... what I found finally worked best is:

-Those center spacers have "centering" tabs made of thin material around them on each end....so I used my punch...roughly found the edge...and tapped inwards first...  the center spacer will move over enough to get an edge.

-As long as you're putting in new bearings..... work your way around and around....tap tap tap...tap ...tap tap...you get the idea...haha

Mine took a good while..but eventually let go of their 32year old home and slowly came out.

Once they're out...just bend the centering tabs back as close as possible (the axle will center it anyways....getting the tabs back to  "close as possible"...makes it easier to get the axle into the wheel)

...hope the CB550's are the same...mine was a 750...but I'm sure it is!

Cheers!
and Good Luck!
