Center Stand too long?
« on: August 05, 2019, 01:57:17 PM »
I just purchases and am re-habing a 1973 CB500Four.  The centerstand is WAAAY too long, making it nearly impossible to back the bike up on the stand.  I suspect a prior owner either changed it or my rims/tires are not original specs.  Can another owner measure his/her center stand and let me know how long it is from pivot to floor?   Would be much appreciated.

It should look like the one in the attached picture.

Could also be swapped out shocks that made it sit lower to the ground, making it seem like the center stand is too long. I don't think there is a lot of compatability netween models on center stands due to different exhaust shapes, etc.

The easy trick for at home  take a piece of 1x4 or 2x4..  roll rear wheel up on it, then use the centrestand.. easy.

Use a piece about 8 to 12 inches long.

thanks for the quick replies.  My stand looks exactly like the pic above, but it is waay too long.  It measures 13.5 inches from top of pivot to floor.
I tried rolling the back tire up on a 2x4.  In fact TWO 2x4s were still not high enough.  I ended up just taking it off altogether. ..which makes oiling the chain a bit more problematic.
