Painting around tank lid key? (Pics included)
« on: May 14, 2010, 03:19:18 PM »
I'm rebuilding my 77 CB750 from the ground up, including paint. The lid for the fuel filler has a lock with a key hole, and I originally tried to mask around it but it looks terrible. Any suggestions? Can I replace this part? Should I paint just the black plastic part, or paint all, including the metal where the key inserts?

thanks,

Why didn't you just take the lock out before painting the lid? It's only held by a large clip on the back side. There a small pin at the end of the lock that can be driven out. After that you can take the lock apart and straighten the bent slot.

The chrome looks a little mangled too[?], I'd replace it.
My 550 uses any key to open the lid, so rekeying to match the ignition should not be an issue.
How 'bout more pics of the bike?!?

I found the part number for the "lock filler lid", so I guess Im just going to order a new one and replace it.

Thanks
