Topic: Will another tank fit?

I'm currently working on a 75 CB550 super sport and I'm on the fence about trying to fix the rusty/pin-holed tank that it came with.  A local salvage yard has many different, good condition tanks but no 550 SS tanks.  I know the CB500 tank will fit because I've used the one from my '73 to get her running, but I'm wondering what my other options are.  Will something like a 77-78 tank fit?  Maybe a CB750 tank?  Any body have any idea what else might work on this bike?

A 550K tank will fit, but if you are using a stock 550F seat, you will have an issue there.

I can't believe you can't find one, I'll keep my eyes open...

PS. I would find another good cond tank before going the JB/POR15 route on yours, if not done just right, you will be back where you started.

I have my stock 500 seat I can use until I figure out my tank dilemma.  When I find a clean tank, I plan on trying to repair the original 550 SS tank I have, it's the same color as yours.  Love the blue.  When I get my tank sorted, I will recover the original seat and keep the bike more stock so I can run the current wifey about town and to baseball games, etc.

Have you heard of Alpha Heaven? According to their website, they have a couple K tanks. Call them tomorrow!

It's a little pricey, but I would rather have a good clean tank.  You're pretty sure the 77-78 tank fit the 75?

Look in the forum "Project Shop" for the thread "Better late than never"...it's a 550 that the guy is not using cuz he bought a cafe tank.

MoTo-Bunny got a 750 tank to fit her 550.  She made some kind of tool to stretch it out a little so it'll fit over the backbone of the frame, but other than that, she said it came out great.  Might want to try a PM
