I have three very different bikes a stock 1983 Suzuki GS450, a hardtailed 1975 CB750 with megaphone, and 2002 custom Yamaha Roadstar a real thumper.  Each one has a very different sound and two of them would qualify for tickets under the noise bylaws.  I like the sound of each bike and couldn't care what anyone else thinks, that's why I bought them and ride them.

My neighbours have commented on being awakened in the late morning by me heading off for a ride, and frankly my thoughts to that are sucks to be you.  There are lots of things that bug me or annoy me but I am not going to whine about it or do something to deprive them of their rights to have fun.  But I will when advised, be more conscientious when I start the bikes early in the morning as I hope others would if it annoyed me.

Sometimes the truth hurts, sometimes we fit into the category of those for who these laws were written to stop.  Oh well I will take my lumps when handed out, but that won't make me become a lemming and do as I am told by a society run by spineless brainwashed politicians.

Baiting the moderators isn't a recommended practice. You won't like the outcome.

I recently read in the local newspaper (Cochrane Times) about a nearby tiny village that is looking into a noise bylaw. This tiny village (Bragg Creek, Alberta) reports in the paper that they are not going to single out motorcycles but that motorcycles are a large part of their concern.

http://www.cochraneeagle.com/2011/03/bragg-creek-noise-bylaw-being-drafted-by-county-2/

There are several disturbing things about this to say the least! Bragg Creek is a very popular stop on a very popular motorcycle route that takes you through some very pretty and twisty roads with some great pubs en route including Bragg Creek.

Edmonton Alberta in 2010 passed a such a noise bylaw and fellow riders have been harassed and ticketed for noise and the news is even catching the attention of our news talk radio stations where they have reported that one such unlucky fellow rider was ticketed twice in one week and has successfully defeated them for reasons surrounding the testing methods. He had "an older Japanese bike" 600cc with a stock muffler from a different Japanese bike...

Is this a Canadian issue or is this type of non nonsense enforced elsewhere???

Perhaps someone could invent a motorcycle muffler sound that mimics a barking dog!?!?  ;)

Can we get back to the heart of the topic??

They are targeting motorcycles regardless of brand. My point in the original post was to bring us together which clearly has missed it's mark.

We are outnumbered by people who do not ride or even particularly like motorcycles in general.  If we do not clean up our act , and this means everybody (cruisers, metric and H-D, crotch rockets, us), they will demand something be done.  And they will get their way.  I can't imagine a group of riders going before a city council and saying it is their right to make as much noise as they want, anytime they want.  Didn't Gov. Terminator sign a law in California just before he left office dealing with motorcycle exhaust noise ?  If riders don't wake up and smell the fumes, we will all be sounding like segways.

It's like anything else in life... if you don't regulate yourself at some point, others will do it for you.

Cqyqte's banning is a good example of that.  ;)

I've kinda always wondered why there haven't been lots more tickets given out for sound violations, I rode a friends Fattie for a while, and it was obnoxiously loud (but I do love that sound), even being the rider, so I wore ear plugs all the time, but hey...I got several tickets in various cars for loud exhaust back in the 70's, my GTX had Hush Thrush muffflers, some with glass packs, and  others were merely rusted out stock exhausts, none of them were anywhere near as loud as lots of bikes (and bass thumpin stereos) I've heard....cops just don't like me. I used to try to be part of the solution, they told me i AM the problem.... :'(  not my bike, not my car, not anything I'm doing....just ME....so again I'll say... watch yer ass, cuz no one else will...except the ones that WANT to f$%k with you

FYI, I don't hate Harleys.  I like machines in general, Harleys included.  I was always looking for a basket case to resurrect.  But, for the price even basket cases were selling for, I could get 3 running bikes that weren't Harleys.  And, several of my bikes were just given to me.  The MOST I ever paid to drag home a motorcycle was $500 (CB750F.)  It was also the only one I could actually drive home.  Try getting a Harley for $500! (legally).

Cheers,
