cb550F sprocket reccomendations
« on: February 01, 2006, 01:31:20 PM »
I just ordered new sprockets for my '76CB550F. after they sent the wrong part for the rear sprocket, i began rethinking using the stock  combination, as i am running a 16" rear tire. in the yoshimira performance section of my older clymer's manual, it recommends losing one tooth on the front sprocket for a bit more top end power or to compensate for increased drag if using a fatter tire. i am using a fatter tire (130/90/16), however it is also a smaller diameter. any suggestions here? this bike will primarily be used stoplight to stoplight and on inner-city freeways. i will of course hit the local racetrack for fun, but it's not really a racer nor will it be much of a tourer with clubmans and a solo seat.

I not sure you can go any smaller than a 33 rear just for the hub size. I have a 78 550k running a 120/90/18 and stock front 33 tooth rear. I like the gearing on it. I have a 72 500  and had the 4.50 on the rear with 33 tooth sprocket and stock up front. Liked that gearing. pop me up to 80 in no time. I swapped out the rear 77 550F rear I got for parts, 37 tooth rear and a 110/90/18 wish there was a 120/90/18 on there it seem's to rev to quick and no top end 65mph I'm at about 6,000 in 5th. I'm going back to the 33 rear in the 500 with the 110/90/18 and putting the 37 tooth rear and a 120/90/18 and see how that work's out on my 78. I like inner city and side street's also.
