Got me a triple!
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:41:20 PM »
Picked up this pile for a mere 500 frogskins. Not a bad deal,eh? She had a petcock leak(vacuum petcocks) which I fixed by installing two inline universal on off gas valves from O'reily's for lawn mowers and such. Works great!
This tripple is a 77' XS750D2 which sounds  raather unique , like a Ferrari and will smoke a CB of similar displacement. One of the faster old street bikes I have ridden. The coolest is that it still has all original equipment and papers from the dealership even the uncrating checklist , The glow in the dark dealership keychain and even a spare blank key!

Also have a NOS tank that is flawless not installed!

Nice find.  I also like that standard model over the special model.  That and the GS850/1000 were the other bikes on my list when I was looking for a smoother ride than my XS650.  I just found the CB750F first.  It is an under appreciated classic.

almost got a 750 F a while back. THe  bike had some kinda aftermarket exhaust 4-1 that roared ,plus the triple disc brakes meant it could actually stop .deal breaker was no title. I got this rule about that now....
I love the way the XS650 sounds and pulls but the stock seat was just hella uncomfortable for me ,kept pushing me forward toward the tank .

Now this triple , a shaft drive with a kickstart and triple disk brakes ! yahoo! It is very long too, I am guessing the wheelbase is longer than the Honda F for sure. It wouldnt fit on the trailer I brought to take it home. Ended up loading it sideways in the back of my Ram . Made the mistake of armoroiling the seat (I know I know , but it looks so nice)
and decided 10 minutes later to see if it really would do a 11 second quarter mile and almost slid off the seat from the torque! Ha!

Only problem with the bike now is the speedo is stuck at 30 mph, the odometer works so I am thinking that it is some crud built up inside. Great thing about these yamaha's are that you can easily get at the guts of a speedo with a paint key . Wish Honda woulda followed suit there!

Very nice!  Great price, too!

Those Yami triples were/are hot stuff!
I hope to grace my stable with one someday.  :)

Yeah, the 1981 and newer XS650's had that uncomfortable stepped seat.  A friend has an 81 and I find my older ones to be much more comfortable but they still vibrate the same. ;D  You will find it has some non-motor parts in common with the XS650.

500 you bloody thief! ;D
Nice and unusual bike, just what I like.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

What a beauty.  I had a '77 XS750 a few years back, but it had the 2nd gear problem.  You had to double-shift right from 1st to 3rd.  Eventually, I parted it out.

That looks like a winner.  Were those bags factory?  Mine was that same color scheme, but no bags.

Enjoy!
