Howdy Y'all,
It's my first post so I figured I'd ask a question that's probably been covered to death but I'm too lazy to research properly. I'm looking for the best possible tires for my 76 750f. Looking for something like the metzeler sportec. I'm a relatively inexperienced rider but I want to lean it over as far as possible with confidence. I've been checking out the Avon Roadriders, Bridgestone bt45's and Pirelli sport demons. My co-worker, who I used to race home from the bar back in the day, says not to worry too much about it, I'll never push it hard enough for it to matter . Maybe, but I still want to know I've got the best performing tire I can find. Anyone have an opinion on this? What about switching to 17" rims so I can find more modern tires? Would the tire sizes make up for the gearing ratio difference? Would it matter much?

Lazy is not a good start here in sohc4, what if people are also too lazy to reply?

In any case, BT45's, people race with them, the rear is double compound, should good enough

If you want to sell the tank and seat off the 750 let me know....preferably before you lean too much and crash it

Thanks guys. Bt-45's sound great and my local shop has them in stock at a good price! Sorry about the tank andy but that things about to get "caved and paved" as my old school autobody guy calls it. Not sure about the seat yet. It'll be replaced w/ a one up but I may try to keep it for occasional gf rides. Thanks for the vote of confidence though

Don't even do that to that sweet tank! Seriously. Damn near impossible to find a decent 75/76/77/78 F tank. Almost as rare as hens teeth and they are not available. There are many other "less than optimal" 750F tanks that could be used for that. While we may not help you do your own search we would be glad to help you find another tank to use for your project! Kinda like that Mac tailpiece. You can't find another one of those or the stock muffler. Nice bike by the way!

As far as seats go, some of us are wanting to have Corbin begin production again of their "Gunfighter" seat. They currently make them for '79 and up. Check the 750F thread and I started another specifically about the Gunfighter. Only problem, Corbin says they need a bike at their shop in Hollister, CA for 1 full day. I haven't seen anyone close yet.

DON'T DO IT!

Do NOT ruin that tank trying to make some "cafe" bike out of it.

Do a search for DME and see what you can do with 2 K tanks.

I bought 1 good one and 1 trashed one for less than $80 and turned out this in 1 day.

Then I bought a cheap fiberglass seat base off eBay and a brake like from Carpy.

Now when I want to ride in Rat Cafe style, I can.  The rest of the time (99% of the time) I have a classic mod/resto '77F.  It's the best of both worlds.

Hell, if you want to trade, I'll send you my cafe seat and tank for your stock seat and tank.  SERIOUSLY.

Or, I have a donor K tank that I'd sell you cheap.  I also have a good '77/'78 K tank that you could "cave and pave".

I appreciate y'alls concern about "ruining" a perfectly good tank that they aren't making any more of. I have two of these bikes, the other is a 77 w/ a little more mileage on it (about 14k) but in way better condition. That one is going to be kept completely stock w/ the exception of the original owners mods (she worked at the dealership and did a few tasteful upgrades that I want to keep on it because of their period correct awesomeness). The '76 in the photo was given to me by a friend who couldn't get it running. It has 12k on it and was in perfect condition until a previous owner had to store it outside near the ocean for a year. The "complete electrical failure" described to me turned out to be a little corrosion in the killswitch. After a few hours w/ some steel wool, wd-40 and simple green and a complete brake o'haul, it is a very sweet bike that will require constant attention to keep from rusting away. As good as it looks in the photos, rust has entered the equation. I plan on enjoying it as is until I get the '77 on the road and then it'll begin turning into a Carpy style cafe' racer.

im with turboguzzi , the bt45 makes a great road tyre, good in both wet or dry conditions . i have just fitted a wider rear rim to my f2 and have been told the 150 brigestone is no longer available , my tyre dealer has  given me an avon am26 roadrider to try  so i will let you know how it is in a couple of weeks

Just put the Bt-45's on today. They are way better than the 1993 Dunlop's I was running. They were out of stock on the 130 for the rear so I went w/ 120. Bike feels great! Thanks for the advice!
