I constantly see deer, both on the bike and in the car.  I only came close to hitting one once; in a car.  The closest I ever came to hitting an animal on the bike was a raccoon just a couple weeks ago.

Where do you live where you have Deer and racoon both riding bikes and traveling in cars.....and why would you hit a deer in a car, wouldn't it be easier to take it outside?..... ;D ;D ;D ;D

I dunno man, I guess if I caught a raccoon on my bike, I'd hit it too.  ;D

there is a deer hit here every 24 hours. I too went for 36 years without hitting a deer.
Then, one with the pickup, no way to avoid, one with the bike, no way to avoid.
Where we live it's the same as the saying with 2 kinds of motorcyclist.
Those who have wrecked and those who will in the motorcyclist case.
With deer, it's those who have hit them and those who will.
The ones that are hard to hit are the ones I actually try for. ;)

of course a lot of that has to do with mountain roads. Trees within 4 feet of the road, sometimes closer.
Steep hills on the sides of road was my demise, the deer fell out of the sky as far as I was concerned.
I know of one motorcyclist killed when a deer jumped out of a rhododendron thicket and landed in his lap.
There is no way to see that coming. I also know of one rider killed by a turkey coming off the mountain and
hitting him in the head, knocked him off the mountain.

We had a landmark case ('88 or '89) out here near Estacada when a horse jumped a fence and landed on top of a Pinto, crushing the occupants. Ford lost the lawsuit, should have had a stronger roof.  I was talking to a tech at the Yamaha shop in Sac once, he told me he was out riding on a country road, lots of them are long straights with little dips and rises, he came over a rise at about 100mph in time to see a turkey vulture lift off from its feast on the road. Took the vulture square to the chest, cracked a few ribs and knocked him straight off the back of the bike, which continued down the road about a mile before slowing enough to fall over. Cracked ribs and a rashed butt, but he walked (limped) away...we really do need an accident thread...

Can anyone figure out how this accident could have been avoided? ???

I was actually thinking maybe riding a little slower over a blind rise, but ducking faster is an option also. ;D

One of our long term riders had a small deer jump from beside the road and wound up straddling the tank...two legs on each side. I guess he was trying to jump over the bike like the famous utube video. He managed to get the bike stopped after untangling his arms from under the deer. His memory of the event is a pair of brown eyes looking up at him.  ;D

I do a lot of riding near a friends lake cabin in north central Minnesota and the number of deer we see in the evening is a bit unnerving at times.  Been lucky so far and have never hit one.  Mostly doe's so at least we are unlikely to get impaled on a set of antlers. ;D
