That is one really nice bike.

Where did you get those indicator lights?

well since you can create things in autocad perfectly you can measure the exact distance with a caliper from the inside edge of each fork tube at the very top of your forks, then measure the exact diameter of the top fork tube. You can then plug that info into autocad, then find the centers and you can create a perfect model of your brace, by using the centers you found. It is much more accurate in this instance then trying to measure centers perfectly.

I thought you could just measure from the near side of one circle to the far side of the other and that would be your center?  At least that's the way I was taught at a bodyshop I used to help out at.  Didn't think you'd need autocad or anything like that.

I'm not sure how you are doing that with your caliper, fastbroshi. I'll have to go look at some and figure that out. I would have done it like cornandp suggested so I had the center distance and the diameter of the forks to CAD. Maybe I'm not getting what you mean. I'm not a machinist or anything, just an amateur. Hmmmmm.... off to check out calipers since I'm apparently wide awake tonight. Ya never know what you're going to learn around here.

so then find something you can use as a spacer that won't compress at all and put it in between so you can accurately measure, just dont forget to add the spacer length back into your measurement. If it is any consolation you can build a 5 part brace where the centers measurement can be + or - .02 to .05 like mine.

I'll see if I can explain.  My favorite crayons don't work over the internet so bear with me.  Given our two identical circles, or the holes in the triple for our fork tubes, they'll have the exact same diameter, 35mm on a CB550.  They'd have the exact same radii too, or the orange measurement, which is 17.5mm.

We can measure from center to center(the pink line) or, from the same point on each circles outside diameter.  This is the blue line.  Both measurements would be identical.  Which one you use just depends on your measurement tool and the easiest way you can take your measurements.  Hope I didn't mess that up.

And I forgot to measure that yesterday morning, sorry.  It's like 5 AM when I get off.  I'll try and remember to do it if you still need it.

How is the quality on the fiberglass gas tank from Legendary?  Truly ready for paint?  Any obvious issues with today's gasoline?  THANKS!

you can measure just above your fender, there shouldn't be anything in the way there.

I understood where you were measuring from. I guess what I was meaning was... are you putting a caliper firmly on the outside of one fork and then eyeballing it to line up to the inside for a measurement on the other fork?

Mickey, I'm not sure if you're talking to me but if so, that's a no.  I've just got a spare triple I put the measuring tape to.  It's exactly 5.75" or 146.05mm between the fork legs' centers.

well if you do a 3 part brace that has half of the collars on the bridge it has to be absolutely perfect or it will bind the forks. Just fyi.

I dunno about eyeballing it with a standard tape measure, considering it's forks. I have no idea what tolerances you would need for this kind of stuff though. I am watching what you guys say about this stuff because I am considering something like this for Kit's CL350.  :)
