cb750 Engine case / barrels / head compatibility
« on: May 18, 2010, 04:39:26 PM »
Hi, sorry if this has been covered before, but I am about to build a single CB750 motor from several different worn/ wrecked motors, using all the good bits that I can scavenge. The motors are all different years, so I'm wondering what sort of compatibility issues I may have, specifically what cases, barrels and heads match up. I know the F models had larger valves and therefore a different head, but none of the motors that I am using are Fs.
Thanks for any help!

Best to start here, and identify which engines you have:

Short answer is that you can mix and match just about anything you like, so long as you stay away from the 77-78 750F black motor. You may have an engine with a more desirable transmission, or pistons, or whatever, but for the most part they will all fit together the same.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

+1 on what Sean said. Please don't lump all the F's together. The 75/76 will work fine for what you are doing. It's the 77/78 that you'd have trouble mixing and matching.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
