CB Project (not sure wich one)
« on: May 20, 2010, 08:44:38 AM »
Hello,

as this is my first post I'll first introduce myself  :D (as I'm not english, i'll do my best to write without major mistakes, but I can't promise  ;D)

I'm VatoG from Belgium, I'm a big motorcycle fan, and honda motorcycles in particular. Till now I've only had 1-cylinder honda's.
My current bike is an XR650R in supermoto trim.

This summer however I'm gonna start a new chapter in my young life (I'm definitly gonna keep my XR :)) but I'm going to chase my dream and buy myself a CB550 or CB750. I haven't decided yet wich one because until now I only love these bikes because of the looks and their famous history (and because my father used to have one), so at first I'm going to find out more about the driving characteristics of the bike. I definitly want a 4 into 2 exhaust, but don't see for which bike these are commonly available.

For now I already searched to see what bikes are available in my area. These are some bikes I've noticed, what do you think?

Love this one, but very bad condition. Read some things about the supersport F, and not sure if it where good or bad things  ???

Very cheap, very bad condition. But I'll restore it anyhow. So could by nice deal (maybe together with the first one)

Same as previous bikes (maybe buy all three of them :D )

Ugly ass bike, but in reasonable condition and for sale at a dealer. Already has dual disc (wich I'm keen on) an probably good engine.

Same condition, lower price
http://www.2dehands.be:80/motoren/motoren/honda/honda-cb-750-kz-58830066.html?motor_bj__tot=1985&qq=cb&start=42

As you see, more 550 available in bad condition. That means I'll have to redo the engine anyhow, wich will be a big cost.

Maybe you guys can help me out with my 550 - 750 doubts. (I hope this isn't a general which-is-better-discussion on this board, like a honda vs ktm discussion on the supermoto forum :D)

And I can also show you some of my inspiration bikes to add some pics to this post. This is just a small selection, because I can't refind most of them.

The style and the seat

Everything

The WM muffler  :P

Thanks

Welcome!!

As for the debate regarding which bike is better it is really which bike is more suitable.

The 550 is obviously a bit lighter and tends to make a "better" Cafe project. The 750 is obviously a little heavier and bulkier but still can be converted quite easily. Like I said, it really depends more on the rider and what you want out of it. The F's are good since they already have the dual discs etc lots of plusses and minueses to each.

Can I suggest you check out the "Inspiration Thread" or maybe some of the many bike of the month threads and various project threads.

Good luck with whatever model you go with and be sure to start a project thread when you do get started....

Dennis

Hello from California USA. The bikes with the two in to two were the CB550K and the CB750K  The CB550F was a 4into one Exhaust. I have a CB550F with the 4into one and when I bought it I ran down the Baha
in Mexico I put on 2600 miles in two weeks and wore out the new rear tire and chain. I changed the gearing for high speed and at times ran at over 100 MPH for hours at a time the bike still runs now that I rebuilt the carbs. I have 8900miles on my bike and you can see it just look for TPColgett Familly blast from the past. You will see that I put dual rotors on the front this helps the stopping a grate deal and the rear disc also helps. The stopping was a problem from the start. They only came with one front disc and a drum rear brake. George Colgett ;D
