Hello Folks.

Had popped in the forums a few other times last year looking around for info (not actually joining back then) but finally after an electrical problem last month and this past weekend along with a carb fuel leak all the time I decided I better join to try and get the bike more then just "working" but actually running and looking good, and sharing the process.

Bike of choice is a 78' CB750K8 got it for $400 with 46K miles and an electrical problem back in late august of 09', got the electrical problem fixed and found out she needed some tuning and she leaked gas. band aid fixed the fuel issue with a lot of sea-foam fuel cleaner, got cold and put the bike up for the winter and when I got it out back in April to start riding it around and to work and back found out the fuel problem was still there, and that I had a new electrical issue, everytime I would stop and use the turn signals I would blow the main fuse, only managed to blow the fuse once going to work but on the way home.....I found out it was a bad idea, blew all my spare fuses on the way home and ran out of gas along with have the bike stall numerous times. After that night I almost gave up entirely on the bike.

However just this past weekend I couldn't stand NOT riding around pulled the bike out and started to try and clean the carbs and fix the electrical issue, spent most of Saturday letting the carbs soak and working on the electrical got done about 10:30 at night and said to hell with it I must know if its fixed or not so I trekked off to the country roads so I wouldn't bother the neighbors, the bike worked pretty good no leaks and no blowing of the fuse, at least until I started coming back when the turn signals wouldn't work anymore, got home safe and figured I'd work on it sunday, pulled the bike out and went to start it no power what so ever, checked the battery, still good, checked the fuse, it "looked" good still so I went threw the harness again, but after 4 tries I said screw it and started disassembling the majority of the bike so I could rebuild it, with a new custom wire harness with new water resistant connectors, a more naked looked instead of the vetter fairing that it had from when I bought it, reupholster the seat, clean up the frame and get the carbs tuned and jetted.

Man this more like a story sorry for the LONG intro.

Clean your fuse holders, I mean remove your fuses and really really clean your fuse holders and the exterior of you fuses too......sounds simple, might just be your problem. :)
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Nope, I tore out all the old harness and most everything that had a wire with the exception of the stuff in the engine, the key switch, and the tail light, and was modifying all my lights for my gauge cluster to be leds and after I was done something told my to mess around with the fuses used a RC lipo battery I had in the room and a LED as a dummy light and the main fuse was blown at one the end terminals out of sight, once that was figured out I kicked myself for over reacting, but at least now it'll have a more up-to-date electrical system minus the regulator, as for the fuses being blown with the turn signals, it turns out the winker had fried, it was a thermal winker and apparently the relay coil and some other wire had heated up enough to melt a plastic piece and all the enamel on the coil causing the coil to short and maybe another wire to short to ground so every time the signals turned on they would short out in the can and blow the fuse, so I'm gonna make a digital winker for the new LED turn signals I'm getting for the front and rear.

Also I'm gonna replace the stock fuse block with a 8 place ATC blade style one, but only use 4 slots the other 4 will be used for simple blown fuse indicators.
