'78 CB500K HM404 Exhaust... can it be saved?

I have a Honda CB550K (I actually attahced a few pics!).  The bike is in pretty good shape, but came with 4 into 1 pipes - the PO did give me the original HM404s though.  3 of the 4 are in great shape (very little rust, not scratched...) but the fourth has a pretty big hole (lower left pipe).  Can it be saved?  Looks like it had been patched previously...  hoping it can be cut out and have a new patch welded on.

The other note is it sounds like the baffles are coming apart inside as I can hear some stuff moving around in there - how big an issue is that?

The 404s are unobtainable new (as you have probably discovered) although they do come up on eBay every now and then.

Yours looks totally trashed I'm afraid. Even if you did manage to patch it, the insides are falling apart. They rot from the inside out, so the hole you show is just the surface problem - a welder may struggle to find any solid metal to weld onto!

Best bet if the other three are OK is to look out for a reasonable spare.

+1 What Steve said. 

You could cut that bad muffler off and put a similarly shaped slip-on on that pipe while you wait for a spare to show up.  Since it's an inside can, not many people would notice.

Okay - well I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a spare.

Any options as fas as aftermarket 4 into for or even 4 into 2 that are pea shooter style?  I have seen Benji's but the pipes seem to come up pretty high at the back and I'd prefer to keep them with a lower look.

Likely I'll jeust have to watch ebay and check with the local wreckers...
