pg 132 of Honda Shop Manual for the CB750?
« on: May 22, 2010, 05:44:20 PM »
Does anyone have page 132 of the Shop Manual for the CB750? I'm looking for the suggested procedure to remove the wheels and I think this page should have what I'm looking for. It seems like a simple procedure staring at the calipers (cb750f2), hub, and bolts, but maybe I could pick up a pointer or two with this missing page. I'm always a bit apprehensive when it comes to mechanical procedures that I haven't done before . . . a little virgin anxiety.

I purchased Metzeler Lastertec tires today (4.00 18 V rear and 3.25 19 V front) after much research (thanks Lloyd [TwoTired]) to replace my 15 year old Dunlop Elite IIs.  The current tires haven't been used much over the past ten years, and don't visibly display any dry rot but I simply don't trust them around corners.  I had 40psi of air in them (recommended) and they felt "buckle-y" in the corners when I went for a test spin around the block. Anyway, I think a nice prep of the rusty comstars for the new tires is next on my to do list.  Plan: a spray can job.  I have some duplicolor high heat primer and low gloss black engine enamel that are staring at me from the top of my tool chest, so I might as well use them on something, right?

Now that I think about it, I haven't sprayed paint since I was thirteen years old to make my Huffy bike rad . . . er, gnarley . . . er, wicked, in maze and blue; in Michigan we said 'rad,' btw. Um, I guess clean/prep, finish with red scotch brite, rinse, wait to dry, primer, wait, paint, wait, wet sand, rinse, dry, paint, wait, wet sand, rinse, dry, paint, wait, rinse, dry, clear coat, wait, install? Man, I'm lost, and if my out of town girlfriend knew that I was planning on painting those rims on our apt. balcony, she'd get pissed.  I better find some cardboard for the overspray.

I'm picking up a new camera tomorrow (Canon 7D for thos interested [I'm so stoked]), so I can't wait to document this.  Should be fun. Maybe I should start a project thread.

Page 131 is the last page of the chapter on "wheels, Tires, and Final Drive" The next page starts the section on Brakes...

I have p. 131 as section 13-2a, _____132 missing______, then p. 133 section ? b.?.remainder of d . . .

meaning any remainder of 13-2a, but most likely section 13-2b.1 a b c and d, if there's no remainder of 13-2a and only one 13-2b subsection.  Man, I'm splitting logical hairs.  Wish I had a camera.  Here's an old pic for fun.

In mine, pg131 starts with section 13-4 FINAL DRIVE, that ends the chapter.

My manual is copyrighted in 1971... different versions maybe?

Sure he means CHAPTER 13-2 of the manual "Front Wheel And Tire", it skips a page from 131 to 133. Every electronic downloaded manual I have seen is missing that page seems like it's all from one source that was missing that page or something. I wish someone would share a scan of pg 131 from their paper manual and be done with it. Spill if you wanna wait on that paint job and have $100 to burn on materials I'm 70 percent done with a homemade paint booth I've been working on and will share the plans with all.

I guess so!  I printed this out a couple of years ago from one of the Manual FAQs links on this site.

So, do you have a complete section 13-2?  I'm getting to the point where I'm just curious now. I'm going to tear that wheel off no matter what. Damn section 13-2 and page 132!

Man, I can't wait to get that camera tomorrow.  Another pic, for fun's sake . . .

It is really simple.

Release the speeedo cable at the wheel.
Get the front wheel up usinbg the center stand support the bike with a jack, block of wood etc.
Undo the bolts at the bottom and drop the wheel.
When you are finished just make sure the axle holdrers are pointing in the proper direction, there are arrows on them.

Removing the tires and remounting will be much harder.

I think you should check your manual regarding tyre pressures. Recommended is 28 front and 32 rear (40 when carrying a passenger) and that is for a 3.50 rear tyre. With a 4.00 it will be slightly lower.
I can tell you after 31 years of racing that higher tyre pressure reduces grip because you have a smaller contact patch.

I used the cold maximum as a guide on the old tire (that's where I got the 40psi).  I won't make the same mistake with the new tires, that's for sure.  Thanks oldbiker.
