Topic: does head tube angle= rake

   I was looking at a rigid frame that my friend has and he had the frame level on his bench and a magnetic angle gauge stuck to the head tube and it was reading around 45 degrees does that = the rake of the bike or give you a basic idea what the rake is?

 That is a lot of rake.. are you sure frame is level?? Could be tough to ride or need raked trees.. If you want to change it..now is the time..

 Sometimes rake is listed the other way, ie 62 deg as opposed to 28.. but easy to figure out id that is the case.

Unless you are familiar with front end geometry and know what rake and trail are and do,  and understand it completely, there is now way in hell i would recommend using raked triple tree's, they are extremely dangerous when used in the wrong application and could quite easily lead to an out of control situation.

It works differently in some cases with choppers, as i see it choppers are inherently dangerous any way....   Chopper rakes can be that extreme that raked clamps can be used to get the trail a little bit closer to something acceptable, although most people wouldn't know this.  I have a mate that had a Harley that he put raked trees on to lengthen the look of his bike and it rode like a pig, with the front wheel raised off the ground, you could turn the handle bars left through right and see the front geometry change, very dangerous.

I have a buddy that manufactures raked trees and other fork components, there definitely is a place for raked trees. Which does nir mean they are recommended in many other cases.

 There is OEM manufacterers that have produced raked trees for trikes (factory).. and I know of at least ine aftermarket trike builder that used them..
