Just finished
« on: May 24, 2010, 09:02:48 PM »
Sorry that I don't have a full project build thread here...Most of the stuff I did was cosmetic in nature, and I didn't take a ton of pics throughout the whole process.  This is the second season that I've had this bike, but the first one that I'm actually proud of being seen on it.  1977 Honda cb750k, before:

Last fall I swapped the 77 carbs with 76 carbs, put on new handlebars, new headlight, new fork seals.  It really changed the look of the bike, but the biggest problem was the seat that looked like a baby elephant seal decided to climb on and go for a ride.

During the last month I swapped the 77k tank with a 77f tank.  In order to make the tank swap I had to do something about the stock seat pan, so I decided to make my own (full seat build here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=15407.0).  I bought some new-for-me wheels, new tires, I chopped both fenders, got a new tail light, and rattle-canned on some new paint.  It's still a rat, but it's exactly the look I'm going for.  After:

There are still a lot of details that need attention, but I need to ride this damn thing. The next big step is replacing the exhaust.  Maybe next winter.

I take dibs on that exhaust.  (I've got a 4-1 that rusty and dented that would look great with header wrap that I can trade)

Cool looking ride.  I like the simplicity of it. How about a pic of the rear, I'm curious about that brake light.

geez, you could at least give some feedback on the bike before you "ask" to trade some of his chrome for some of your rust  ;)

Your just jealous because I got to it first.   :P

Mod Newb does not need my blessings.  I think that he knows that he has built a bad ass bike.  For what it's worth, you sir, built a bad ass bike.  You have taken a turd (with that great seat :o) and polished it in to a fine example of motorcycle-ness.

I'm probably not going to touch the exhaust until next winter.  But in eight months, if I remember that I posted this post and you got "dibs", then I'll be sure and shoot you a PM with pictures of all of the cut up shiny bits that I ruined while prying them off with a hammer and a flat head screwdriver.  ;D

Tail light was purchased from http://www.cyclexchange.net/.  Here's the only pic I've got of it at the moment:

It's a weird angle...the corrugated cable cover comes out the back of the light and curls around and under the seat pan, but in this pic it looks like a part of the actual light housing.  Here's another shot of the tail light as seen from the front...you can see the cable cover a little better here:

That's great.  I'll look forward to the pictures.  Maybe you can loosen the bolts by soaking them in chlorine or salt for a few months?
I'll be sure to store my header in the bottom of my pond for you..... ;D
