81 CB650 stock main size?
« on: May 20, 2010, 07:42:39 PM »
Hi all, just kinda curious what the stock main jets for an 81 650 are?  I havn't pulled mine again to check yet, but the bike would just stop accelerating around 55-60, so I decided to attempt a plug chop at WOT.  If I did it correctly, the plugs said that they were pretty rich with the filter in, and were finally getting closer to tan when I took the filter out(managed to get up to around 65-70 like this, probably could have gone a little more, but 55mph road).. I read the carb faq but am still struggling a little bit to figure out which way I need to go to get these carbs set right.

       Thanks,
                  Sam.

I agree with cb650.

You should just take off the black plastic cover and use large metal washers to hold in the air filter. My 650 would not go above 65 mph before doing this, and after doing so my acceleration picked up a lot.

Cheers!

I had a similar problem after putting on new carbs boots it seems the vent hose that attaches to the backside of the airbox had come lose put it back on and all was fine also check for any air leaks by spraying around the airbox and carb boots with carb cleaner while it's running and see if it stumbles if it does then you have an airleak in that area.

Well, tried the air cleaner held on by washers and something seemed to be just right today... got her out today for the first real ride I've had in three years..  put about 70 mi. on her.  Thanks for the help everyone  ;D
