Oil tank on a 75 cb750
« on: May 26, 2010, 03:25:23 PM »
I just buought a 75 cb750. I have plans to turn it into a cafe racer. I have a general idea of how I'm going to do it, but I'm running into a small problem. The oil tank is ugly as sin!  Is there any way to run the bike without the oil tank. I have seen other bikes without them. Any help would be great, thanks.

Sure you can run it without an oil tank, just not for very long :D
Here is a pic of my oil tank, might give you some ideas of your own.
They are not the best pictures, but it is a 3 1/2 inch cylinder that AI made a tank out of.
Di sected the stock tank and used all the fittings.
Was able to use the stock hoses also.
Second picture is in early building stage.

yeah I know, it wouldn't run for very long! ;D

I like your idea. I was thinking about maybe mounting a tank under the seat so you can't see it.  I just want as little on the bike as posible! I see that you are running a kick start only. hows that working out for you? I'm planing on doing the same.

It still has electric start.
These bikes kick over so easy though that it wouldn't be a big deal to not have it.
But I really like the "happy" button. Especially if you happen to stall it at a traffic light.
The button is mounted next to the throttle housing on the baker that holds the brake lever on.
Might be able to see it in this pic.

THe CB750s that appear to have no tank actually do and thru great effort it has been hidden.

Many threads on the topic, many solutions.

Other bikes that appear to have no tank actually have no tank.

Hey, carguy,

If you ditch the stock oil tank and it's in good shape, let me know if you have no plans for it. I run a stocker and the mouth of my tank is a mess so one in good condition is something I'd be interested in. I'm just down in Cincinnati. Send me a personal message and let me know how condition and how much you want for it. I'll be in Columbus June 6, 7 and 8, by the way.

You will need an oil tank with about the same capacity as the original. Just be sure that you run the lines with care wherever you put it.

I have no problem selling you the tank, it's in great shape! However, I would like to hold on to it until I get my "new" oil tank squared away.  I also have a bunch of parts that I will not be using.  If you're intested make sure you keep in touch.

i can't remember the thread on here, but some guy is running a tank from bunkking.com or a similar setup.  he tucked it back up in the triangle under the seat, and it cleans things up pretty well IMO.

Have heard of some people sectioning off the gas tank and making the back end of it into the oil tank. pretty clever idea if you ask me.

it is a good idea, but a warm crotch, and some loss in fuel capacity.  plus you have to properly add all the fittings from your oil tank so it can vent properly.  my only concern is for the aesthetics.  you'll have to put another cap on there to fill it from.  a flush mounted pop up cap wouldn't look too bad though...

The CR750 had something like that. The oil cap was accessed in a "U" cut in the seat between the riders legs.

I'm in no hurry so just get back to me when you are ready. I have a short list of other body parts I could upgrade depending.

I used some fittings from Bungking.com when I made my oil tank.  I'm still not 100% satisfied with my result, so I'll embark on tank version 3.0 soon.  It's an adventure, that's for sure.

i've seen yours before, but there was someone else who used a round oil tank from them and mounted it in the back rear of the triangle behind the seat.
