I am gearing up to start a Cafe build on a SOHC 750. I don't actually have "the" bike yet but I am trying to gather up some pieces and parts so when that perfect one pops up on CL I can get started right away.

So here is my question...

I have the original wheels from my 07 Aprilia SXV 550 supermoto. they are 17" and the rear is 6" wide and takes a 180/55/17 tire. they are spoke wheels and are pretty much brand new which is my reasoning for trying to use them. They look SUPER classy and will perform extremely well if they will fit.

I am not afraid to make a new swingarm which I'm sure I'll need to do. what I want to know is weather or not I will be able to keep the centerline of the tire in the centerline of the bike without having to use a jackshaft or something lame like that.

If it wont work, it wont work. I'm not looking to do something janky/unsafe/half-assed just to fit a big tire in back.

I do have (limited) access to some high end CNC mills and such so there is quite a few options as far as making adaptors and such.

What is the widest wheel/tire that will fit without interfering with the chainline?

Other ideas for the build:
modern front end, still not sure just what yet but I am leaning towards a few that seem compatible with the aprilia front wheel.

super simplified electrics.

I'm sure you've all seen the Wrenchmonkees "monkey #11" well that is my inspiration. not trying to duplicate it but there are many things they did that I will parallel.

This project is in its infancy but with any luck i'll be underway soon.  I've built bikes for plenty of other people but never one for myself and I think it's about time!

OH! I almost forgot! I'm Erik... From Philadelphia PA. Was a factory Yamaha tech for many years and now own a small repair/custom shop specializing in older Japanese bikes. Myself and two other partners. One is experienced with vintage brit bikes and Harleys, the other is a welder/fabricator who does a lot of architectural steel work but has a background in motorcycles as well. I'll probably be spending a good bit of time on here looking for info and hopefully I'll be able to answer a few questions for others as well!

I am using a gsxr rear wheel and will also be using a cycleX offset front sprocket, i have had to shave some width of the rear sprocket carrier to make it all line up.

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.

That looks great! Will it fit under the stock cover?
