So I'm starting this thread a little bit late. I acquired my bike about a year ago. I had been sitting since 1996 but was in decent looking shape. I brought it home, drained the fluids, cleaned the carbs, checked the tank, topped her off, and then rode it for about a month. At that point the ignition crapped out and I opted to upgrade to a PAMCO kit. Off I went for another month or two when it shut down on me in the greatest part of town. I managed to get it running again only for it to start blowing the main fuse non stop.
So, she sat for the winter while I debated on what path to take. About a month ago I finally broke down and ordered a new blade style fuse block since the original had arced and melted a bit. No go, still blowing fuses. I began isolating each circuit to track down the problem and eventually stood back, took a look around, and said screw all this ancient wiring. I decided that if I could wire a few dozen strain gages on the side of a railroad car (Im a R&D test tech in the rail industry) I could certainly rewire a motorcycle. That has yet to be proven...
While waiting for my terminal kit to arrive (I wanted the right bullet connectors) I decided to order a Rick's reg/rec to go with the new fuse block, coils, and Pamco setup. That led me to purchase a new starter solenoid. Since I was going to be waiting for those parts I decided to pull the front end off and replace the steering bearings. Of course the forks were off so I NEEDED a pair of clip ons and new headlight ears. Wouldn't you know the forks were pitted all to hell and ugly as sin under those factory ears so the fork tubes had to go. Since they were torn apart the lowers needed polished. As you can see this simple wiring project is turning in to a full on build. I have been putting in at least an hour a night trying to continuously make progress.
So far I am in the torn down stage with small tasks being completed. On my bench right now are the fork lowers being cleaned up while I wait for the tubes to arrive.

Installed a set of Cycle X Shorties. I'll be removing 2" from the front springs and adding spacers to the dampeners to level out the front.
The headlight bucket was a little rough but workable so it was sanded down and had a few spots filled. It has since been painted gloss black and is waiting to be assembled.
I snagged this seat for fellow forum member GoldenArrow. Its a little rough but certainly salvageable. I'll be working on that a bit tomorrow in between finishing up the fork lowers.
I also have a set of clip ons, some BiltWell grips, bar end mirrors, Carpy 4-1 exhaust, and a few other odds and ends waiting to go on.
