Well... after dealing with some wheel bounce and fork flex at 70mph (incrementally worse as speed increased... see my
"Fork Flex" thread 'bout it)
...I ulitmately discoverd that the spoke weight that the PO had on the front wheel was not only twice too heavy, but on the wrong side! Without one of those nice wheel balancers it took a little while to figure that out though.
After my final fix... I could tell immediatly at even 30mph that it was running much smoother.
(And before I'd have sworn it was perfectly smooth up to 65) As I got on the F-way and started moving along with traffic through the long construction zones... I eagerly anticipated the end of the work zone as the 750 was running so smooth I felt like I was standing still. ... then ... clear smooth straight road ahead... 70 still smooth - 75 no bounce still - 80 no flex, shimmy, shake - 90 niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice .. (had it up to 90 before... but she felt like she was going to break up) This time... smoooooooth and solid.. oh what the hell ... TWIST... yeah... into the triple digits! Felt more solid than most cars I've been in at that speed.
I've been amazed that some of the most significant improvements on this bike for me so far have been the smallest things.
I'm almost anxious for the winter to come so that I can break it down for a full restore. naaaaa... I've gotten over 3000 miles in the last 10 weeks... I hope to get a few more few thou before winter... yeah... heh heh...
