Engine numbers help
« on: May 27, 2010, 12:54:20 PM »
Can someone post up a picture of there 76-78 cb750f engine numbers at first look I thought I had got a super sport engine in my new bobber because the engine was stamped "cb750f" but now im not so sure.  If I'm right the super sport engines will have numbers starting "CB750FE-*******". the reason I'm confused is cause on one part of my motor its stamped
"CB750F-3103351" and on another part of the same motor its stamped "CB750E-3103351". I just wanna know cause I wanna by an 836cc kit and I wanna buy the right kit for the right motor. Thank you

the E-number would fit here:

as a 78 k8.
Maybe it was swapped in at some point?

Yeh been there just looking for someone that knows a little more than me to just confirm since on my motor I have an F and an E. Its hard to match it with a Frame number since it was just the motor that was pulled from the donor bike almost 10 years ago and put into a custom frame.

Not really sure so far this has just been an email thing between me and the guy selling it I'm in virginia visiting some friends. I haven't actually picked the bike up. I call him and see where they are stamed does that make a difference in what bike they came off of? Here are the pictures he sent me

I've never seen an engine with 2 sets of numbers?? Looks like the same pix with a closer view.

I'm seeing cb750E. I do not believe the F's actually had the F stamped into the engine serial number, just on the steerin neck and VIN plate. Without looking up the engine numbers myself, I'd be tempted to believe that is a 78 K engine. It will NOT match the frame number.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

According to the links provided by camn and lone x, your motor is a '78 F3: starting engine # 3100001. K8 starting engine # 3000001

I agree.
they both look like 'E's to me too.

Maybe some sand in the stamper or something?

You should wait to get your parts till you can measure yourself, maybe?
