Electronic Ignition
« on: February 03, 2006, 11:20:20 PM »
So I started pulling my $275 K1 apart last night and I came across a nice little surprise..I found that it already had a Dyna S ignition on it. I guess the guy before me never checked it. HAHA.. So I looked at the coils and they say TEC on them. Anyone know about these? I'm probabl just going to replace them with the DYna coils so they match the ignition.

Also, has anyone else had trouble pulling the nut off of the Master Cylinder Bleed Nipple?? (I never thought I would get to say Nut, Bleed and Nipple in the same sentence!!!!) Mine is all stripped out so I'm going to have to vice grip it. If you have the dimensions for it I woud be a happy camper.

TEC (If I remember correctly) stands for Tokyo Electrical Corp. They, along with Hitachi, NipponDenso and Mitsuba were the suppliers of the stock electrical system parts for Honda bikes in the 70's. You would most likely have stock coils.

If they are the stock coils they are probably 5 ohm coils to go with the points ignition. If you replaced them with 3 ohm coils, you might get a little hotter spark, but it's not really neccesary if your coils are good. I ran a Dyna S ignition in an old Shovelhead for years with the stock 5 ohm coils and it worked great. Basically it's like having brand new fresh points in all the time. Oh- BTW while you're in there check the flyweights for proper lube and operation. If it's at all like my old system it still uses the stock flyweights.

72cafe,

Specifically what dimensions for the nipple are you looking for? The parts list does not reference any dimensions, just part number and name. They are avail. through Honda or ServiceHonda, I had to replace mine. If the threaded part of the caliper is stripped, I guess I would consider picking one up off eBay rather than fool with it. Just my opinion though.
