So, my Honda Shop Manual F2 section clearly shows a dual piston caliper, but my bike has a single piston design on it.

Qs: Were some of the '77 models shipped with single caliper rear brakes?

Going to look for a single piston diagram, maybe from another F... ?

Carefully pay attention to what you see. The Honda shop manual has inaccuracies just like all the others. I now have 4 manuals to help make the best decision. The dual piston rear caliper is from the 75/76 F/F1. You're better off with the single as the dual is too quick to lock the rear with a rider that doesn't know better.

Ain't that the truth.  I found what looks to be a correct schematic of the rear wheel and brake on a local motorcycle shop's parts fiche.  I thought I was missing an 18.5x34 washer before I looked at this.  I feel much better about my assembly now.  Let's just hope my CRC synthetic grease doesn't run out onto the disc . . . pads aren't that expensive and it's easier than dealing with a lockup (although, that's happened to me before and it wasn't that difficult to manage; I actually instinctively pressed harder on the rear brake when it happened, thinking: don't let go; don't wan't to whip at this speed...)
