When I buy something good it's usually Rogue Dead Guy Ale.  I also really like Young's Double Chocolate Stout but I dont drink that as much.

Does any one know about Belgian Beer?  I'm taking a trip to Brussels soon and will be stopping in Amsterdam and Paris.  I hear theres a #$%*load of different varieties.  I don't want to look like a chump when I get to a pub and don't know what to order.  Any suggestions?

I used to work with a guy who was a beer conneiseur. He brought me a Chimay, which I believe is Belgian. It was very tasty, although I don't remember exactly which Chimay it was.

I just got back from a week of beer tasting in Belgium! Man those people know a thing or two about beer. And some clocking in at 11%! Hard to go too far wrong with any of them.

Wow...bikes and beer.  Two of my favorite things!  Mrieck mentioned it first:   the Belgian Trappist beer Chimay Bleau  (aka Chimay Blue, and Grand Reserve)  is the quintessential beer.  I can't find it in the States, but have purchased at a beer store in Ontario.

Another great beer I discovered in Chicago: .. Goose Island "Honker's Ale."

I must say, too, that my homebrew beer is top notch too.

Should we start a new thread about homebrewing?

Glenn, pointed this thread to me. I am kind of the resident expert on Belgian Beer :).
When are you comming to Brussels and how long wil you stay ?

There are about 600 different types of beer and about 1600 labels.
They go from light (Jupiler, 4.5%) to Heavy (Duvel 12%)
You can have them taste hop-like (Maes) , sower (Lambic), sweet-sower (Geuze), sweet (Kriek), caramel (Chymay-dark),....

Some of the breweries only make a few 1000 litres a year and you have to reserve a year or two in advance. Others produce more but can still be hard to find.

Name your preference I will name you the Beer.

I'll take one of each. ;D

Just curious. How does a country with a total population that's only slightly larger than the state of New Jersey's have so many different beers? ???
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

I see you like them light. The colour, not the alcohol °
My absolute prederence is a Lambic Deneuve. For the light beers, Jupiler or Maes.
Darker, Palm or Rodenbach
Darker still, Grimbergen dark.
I'd kill for a Faro if possible a Lindemans Faro.

Probably something to do with your weather Fred, over here it's farking hot, so right about now, anything icy cold will do! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
