I have posted here before about some great beers, but I forgot to mention my local brew pub.  http://www.ottospubandbrewery.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4&Itemid=4

This pub is less than one mile from my home, the owner is my neighbor.  IMO, their best beers are the Black Mo and Double D IPA.  Their current beer selection reflects the season.  Their Fall and Summer selections are the best.

I'll be there Friday starting around 6 PM when they tap the firkin.  Last week it was the Double D.  Yummy!

Definitely go to Belgium if you have a passion for beer!
Johnny from Belgium, thanks for the info a while back, I was ordering up beers at the pub like a pro.
Some of the beers I enjoyed while on my hiatus:

The everyday beer I would drink was Jupiler and Maes, Palm these are the equivalent to Bud and Miller, but these are 10x better, no sour taste to them.

Nicer beers:
Leffe, Hoegarden, Duvel, Witkap, De koning, Kwak (you have to give up your shoe to drink about a yard long glass)
I had one kriek beer just to try it, but I believe these kinds are for the women.

Then there are the high alcohol beer like Duvel, there was TD with the pink elephant on the label(delirium tremors), Castle and all the dibble and triples

And the very tasty Trappist beers:
Vestally, Chimay, Rochefort.  All damn good!
("I wish it were winter so we could freeze it into ice blocks and skate on it and melt it in the spring time and drink it!!"  "It's so good I want to stick my d!@k in it"  " It's so good I want it to stick it's d!@k in me!" - Beerfest.)

There were so many more that I tried but can't recall the names.
But the best thing is that every beer has it's own glass.  If a pub serves a particular beer it is only served it that specific glass. That's what you call love.
Peace.

When I am out on the town, I enjoy the local micro brews especially Fat Tire.
If I can't get those it will be Corona or Dos XX.
At home it's Bud Light in a can.

Glad to be of service. Next time give me a call I'll join you :)

Yes they do that, to many of those glasses are stolen. Next time wear old shoes and nick it anyway :)
I had one kriek beer just to try it, but I believe these kinds are for the women.

Kriek is tricky, the bad ones are 'Mort subite' and 'Belle-vue'. The good ones are Lindemans and Deneuve. Witch one did you have ?

Did you find a Farao ?

Our local micro-brewery Southampton Publick House has a very interesting double-ice-bock beer. They take their finest brew in a barrel, freeze it, and the water seperates from the alcohol (alcohol doesn't freeze). Then they repeat the process, throw-away the ice and bottle the leftover alcohol which is a healthy 35 proof beer. MMMMMM GOOOOD!

Belgian beers are good, the rest of the world just don't have a clue.

I will drink any beer cause i'm just going for the buzz it gives me :P but if you think beer is an important part of your life, you MUST try at least 50 different belgian beers.

Right now I'm enjoying an Ommegang which is a Belgian style Abbey Ale brewed and bottled by Duvel in Belgium for the Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, NY...it's real tasty...strong too.  ;D Tomorrow I'll be enjoying some free Sam Adams at the NEBSRA belt sander races. You just can't beat belt sander races and free beer.  ;D ;D

Some friends of mine own a BBQ restaurant where they feature up to 30 different micro-brews at any given time on a revolving basis. There's always something new to try and they have beer tasting dinners several times a year where they have beers that are often only available that night. There is no way I could single out a favorite beer because there are so many great beers out there. Maybe a top ten of beers I can rely on... ;)

Does any one know about Belgian Beer?  I'm taking a trip to Brussels soon and will be stopping in Amsterdam and Paris.  I hear theres a #$%*load of different varieties.  I don't want to look like a chump when I get to a pub and don't know what to order.  Any suggestions?

Every tourist here (in Amsterdam) goes to see the Heineken brewery, and it's crap. They don't even make beer there anymore. Instead, I advice you to go see the brewery "IJ". They make great beer, and it's also in a windmill so you can stripe two obligatory tourist attractions off your list.

Here's the adres for you Rhonda:
Brouwerij 't IJ
Funenkade 7
Amsterdam

Bar is Open: wednesday till sunday, 15.00-20.00 uur.
Take bus nr. 22 to Insulindeweg. Or even better, Tram 10 stops in front of the brewery.

There is a free tour of the brewery every friday at 16:00. No reservation, just be there at four.

In the past I used to drink Strohs, PBR's, Coors, but I really liked Olympia. Could only get it in the most western states. It was brewed in Washington State and when I lived in Ca. in the early 70's, I tried it for the first time. Great beer! I always tried to get some when I flew out in that area.  Now sadly....it is no more.... :( >:( :'(

Dustin Hoffman's Benjamin Braddock in 1967's The Graduate drinks an Olympia beer; Clint Eastwood promoted the brand in several popular films, including Magnum Force and Every Which Way but Loose, in which his orangutan Clyde also indulges. The brand was also featured in the movies Friday the 13th Part III, Any Which Way You Can, the Eiger Sanction and Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. A neon sign advertising Olympia beer can be seen in the window of the liquor store in American Graffiti. Josh Brolin's George W. Bush in 2008's W. drinks Olympia beer. Signage and cans being consumed are also easily visible in the 1979 movie The China Syndrome.

Ag Energy Resources Inc. of Benton, Illinois purchased the machinery from Olympia Brewing Co. to make ethanol for motor fuel use.

Gas no less....what a waste. :P

Now days, Millers, MGD, Heineken, Corona,  but now I really prefer a Capt. Morgan & coke.

Old Speckled Hen - kind of hard to come by in US, but the Brits know it well.

LOVE that stuff, the local bar I go to all the time has that on tap  ;D

Then again the bar is called the Man of Kent and used to be run by an old british guy.

Ommegang is awesome stuff though, go on a tour of the brewery if you ever get the chance.

Probably one of my favorite beers EVER though is Ayinger Celebrator...mmmm. Or I can go for an Arrogant Bastard pretty much whenever wherever...

Not sure who makes it but there is some awesome Creme Brulee Stout I had on tap at a bar one time in Troy NY that was freaken amazing. Super strong too!

Drank some Radegast when I was in the Czech Republic a few years back.  Best beer I ever had.  At that time they didn't export it and I haven't had the pleasure of having one since.

When I traveled to the UK regularly for work I liked:
Stella Artois: Lager - Belgian
Kronenbourg: Lager - French
Badger: Badger's Best Bitter - UK
Hog's Back Brewery: A Over T - UK
Toys:

favorite beer is my own homebrew when I have the time to brew it. 8)

otherwise it depends on the occasion.   in hot summer a crisp kolsh, hefe or IPA is nice.  In the winter I'll switch it up to yuengling, sam adams or whatevers cheap.

now i want beer

So in to Boont Amber Ale right now from Anderson Valley Brewing Company, Mendocino County, CA
slow and steady does nothing.
