splitting cases and rotor removal

There's a lot of crud at the bottom of my crankcase. I was hoping to blast it all out with cleaner so I could avoid cracking the cas of my 1970 750. My question - can I split the cases without removing the rotor? I just want to get in there and clean the crud. If I must remove the rotor, does it tighten counterclockwise? From what I'm reading, it sounds difficult to remove the bolt on the left side that holds the rotor on....

Yes, you can remove the crank without pulling the rotor.
