Look at the inside of the aluminum engine clutch covers from the two different motors. Not the tin outer cover, but the aluminum case covers. Look carefully at these aluminum case covers on the inside of the cover, specifically where the bosses are for the screws that hold the outer (tin) cover in place. I used an early aluminum case cover on a later model (since the early part was chrome) and one of the screw bosses protrudes a little further into the clutch basket cavity than the rest (about a 1/4") on some of the early aluminum case covers. This is not a problem with the early clutches but the later clutch have a little taller stack and this extended screw pocket can interfere with the clutch hub. After I bolted mine together the clutch hub was "pinned" in place and would not budge. A dremel quickly removed the extra 1/4" of material and all was well. I'll post some picts this evening if necessary.
