starting problems
« on: June 03, 2010, 09:16:51 PM »
I have a 1975 cb550, tore it down an put it back together found a simple wiring diagram rewired it following the diagram, rebuilt the carbs put a 110 main jet in since im running a aftermarket 4into 2 exhaust, it seemed like it was getting to much gas so i put the 100 back in that the rebuild kit comes with, hadnt messed with it for a week or so went out to kick it over an NOTHING after 50 kicks or so, then it fired but wont idle, now gas is running out of the over flow tube.it has a new starter solinoid but im not running a push start battery is dead but i have it on a charger or jumping it which has fired the bike in the past,
I just ordered a new single state reg/rec. I was thinking it might be a electical problem, I welded a plate for my battery an wiring an think i might has fried something could i be on the right track? Im getting the battery exhanged tomorrow. it was first kick a couple weeks ago idle good in garage not to ride still need to synch the carbs, thanks to anyone that can point me in the right direction

NOTHING after 50 kicks or so, then it fired but wont idle, now gas is running out of the over flow tube.
For starters, if gas is running out of the over-flow tubes, then fix your carb problems. Lots of info here on that very issue. Search, read, learn...
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

What Scottly said, gas running everywhere is no way to start any bike, cure that and you will probably cure your starting problem.
These bikes run sweet for ages then one day just for fun they start pissing gas everywhere...go figure? :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
