Powdercoat front caliper! Yay or nay?
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:06:45 PM »
I just picked up two CB550 calipers on ebay and before I rebuild them with those keul phenolic pistons from Kevin. I thought about powdercoating them.

My concern is that the heat required to apply the powdercoat could distort the piston bores.

Has anyone powdercoated calipers before?

Should I, or shouldn't I?

Powdercoating brake calipers is done all the time, done it several times myself. Just pick your color.
But if you are super concerned, which you shouldn't be, most auto supply stores sell spray paint specifically designed for brake calipers . . . provided you like black.

This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

Not a problem. I've done it too. Be sure to cover the piston and slide areas. The heat required for powder coating is about 380-400 degrees F. That is not near hot enough to warp an aluminum block.
