Battery replacement nuts and bolts
« on: May 30, 2010, 07:06:49 PM »
Anyone found a replacement for the standard nuts and bolts that attach our battery posts to the cables?
Mine just got eaten by the "pretty blue acid fairy", I got them off but will need to replace them and while I have a heap of standard Honda nuts and bolts I was wondering if stainless steel or something else would work better?
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

One caution if your posts are the type where the bolt enters from above, and the nut is held captive inside the post: make sure the bolts aren't too long. If they are, it will break the post when you tighten them down. :(
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

Stainless should not be attacked by the acid.

Cheers Bobby, I've got stainless so I'll give them a go plus add a big dollop of grease on them to deter the "pretty blue acid fairy". ;D

simple tip for you Hush,

sorry for the hijack

you know those little nuts that keep falling out and are hard to get in the right spot for the bolt,

get a small length of plastic tubing cut it the horizontal length of the post and squeeze it in with the nut uppermost.

then put your bolts in - never lose your nuts again...

and get a spray can of battery terminal protector - never see those fuzzy bits again..

Yep I use the 1/2 plastic tube idea already (didn't I invent it?) ;D but will invest in some battery spray if they make the stuff here in Godzone. :)
