Didn't see Precious, Serious Man was entertaining, but you are really going to say Avatar was BETTER than the Hurt Locker?!?!?!?

Yeah, Locker wasn't exactly total reality based, but what Hollywoodized movie is?

yes, it was better, and the box office #'s agree...hurt locker was really....pointless...at least avatar told a story, hurt locker seemed to be retelling every war story out there, and not any better mind you...

No, you have missed the point. Hurt locker was not about war, it was about how war effects a person. Some guys just re up over and over since they have become so addicted to the rush, they cannot get back into a normal life. There are a lot of guys like that, people think they lost it when they came back, they lost it way before that, it only shows up back here. It was a very sad story and well acted.

Bingo. Guy was good at his job but he was way damaged goods.

A return to a "normal life" just isn't in the cards for people wired like this unless they can get in a SWAT unit or EOD police division back home.

I liked Hurt Locker, the psychological damage was conveyed really well. I prefered Body of Lies though as a package.

Avatar was just too much like the Smurfs for me - do you have the smurfs in the US?

Now if you want to examine all the effects of war on film then the HBO "Pacific" series was peerless. Harrowing, gut wrenching, mind blowing filming and all based on eye witness accounts. It also introduced me to John Basilone - probably well known to you guys but not so in the UK, he was one hell of a hero.

 I watched the whole movie on youtube for free. It's still there. type in hurt locker part 1 and enjoy !

My youngest son was an extra in "The Pacific" which was largely made here in Oz, he really enjoyed playing an American Marine, and was a bit sad when filming was done. I've just finished watching it, it was good, but I think "Band of Brothers" was much better.

I haven't seen "The Hurt Locker" yet, I've got it on my computer (my oldest boy downloaded it, so I hope he's not in the sh1t) so I better watch it so I can form an "educated" opinion, ha ha!

i usually base a movie on weather or not i can tell you whats gonna happen next, i really hate the predictability of hollywood


i thought hurt locker was good ...well acted , i didn't think it was Oscar good , but what do i know  ... 

i thought avatar was ....just ok by itself ... now add the 3D on a big screen (had to take the boy)   now we're talkin ..(made me wish i still did hallucinogens) ... that said, i don't think i'd ever watch the DVD (voluntarily) ... the plot was too recycled and predictable

I started to watch it and was really enjoying it and then the battery on my laptop went flat. Next morning I saw tha news that 2 young Aussie EOD guys and their dog were killed by an IED in Afghanistan. Very sad.
