Hi I just picked up a 1980 xl500s and was curious if anyone else on here has one, or knows of any good resources for them

Well, I don't have one now, but I have before.  Also had a '79 XL250S, an '82 XL500 and two '82 FT500 Ascots, which are based on the earlier (like yours) 500 motor.
