Dennis Hopper lived his 74 years to the hilt. In his time on Earth he lived more life than any of us ever would in several lifetimes. You have to admire that.

I personally absolve you of any connection to Super Mario Bros for all the other superb performances you turned in. Hell, when I think of it you were pretty good in that too.

Frank Booth: Hey you wanna go for a ride?
Jeffrey Beaumont: No thanks.
Frank Booth: No thanks? What does that mean?
Jeffrey Beaumont: I don't wanna go.
Frank Booth: Go where?
Jeffrey Beaumont: For a ride.
Frank Booth: A ride! Now that's a good idea!

RIP DH

Talking about his problems with drug & alcohol use in a 2008 interview....

"I was drinking a half a gallon of rum with a fifth of rum on the side every day, with 28 beers, & three grams of cocaine just to maintain"....

:o :o Not really shocked to hear him say that, but WOW!

He took pretty peculiar roles and nailed them. I think it was the way he talked. Very memorable. This is the first I ever saw him back in the day-

just did a wiki on hopper. some of you may be disappointed by his politics *snicker* but what caught my eye was the art teacher of his youth. for those who know it's impressive stuff. benton was one of the founders of a significant art movement and taught (and p1ssed off i'm sure) jackson pollock.

hopper's acting teacher wasn't nothin' to sneeze at either.

___________________________

"Hopper was born in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Marjorie Mae (née Davis, died 2006)  and Jay Millard Hopper  (June 1916 – August  1982).

After World War II, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where the young Hopper attended Saturday art classes at the Kansas City Art Institute taught by Thomas Hart Benton. At the age of 13, Hopper and his family moved to San Diego, where his mother worked as a lifeguard instructor and his father was a post office manager (Hopper has acknowledged, though, that his father was in the OSS, the precursor to the CIA). Hopper was voted most likely to succeed by his high school class (Helix High School, La Mesa, California, a suburb of San Diego). It was there he developed an interest in acting, studying at the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego, California and the Actors Studio in New York City (studied with Lee Strasberg for five years). Hopper struck up a friendship with actor Vincent Price, whose passion for art influenced Hopper's interest in art. He was especially fond of the plays of William Shakespeare. He discussed his youth, early career, and training, during an interview for the "Actor's Studio" in 1994.

Seeing him in "Hell Ride " increased my admiration for him..

I really like his role riding the Indian in there, and the way he acted....... priceless..

The bikes in that movie were quite good..

My buddy in Calgary got me to watch that movie in the early AM, of the day I set out for Bonneville.... without telling me what we were about to watch..!

Gave me a late start on my ride but it all turned out great in the end.. That was late August, I suppose I should bring back the bike one day...

I have only had about 250  + rides on it... ;D.. so far..

A man that lived HIS life on HIS terms. I greatly admire that. As Jack Nicholson in Easy Rider once said to him, "u mean marywanna" and nic nic after sharing whiskey. Hey, it may have only been a movie but that was his life.

Hmmm I was just following that great ride that traced their journey in Easy Rider the other day on here too. :(
R.I.P. Dennis, you probably infulenced many a baby boomer in their youth to buy a bike and try to be a rebel. :D
Actually come to think of it I had an Easy Rider poster (older brother made them at High School and sold them like hot cakes) on my wall as a 14 year old, strange I didn't remember that until now?

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Yesterday for lunch I happened to read the interview again in the Aug. 2009 issue of Motorcyclist.
Dennis was answering a few questions about the motorcycles in "Easy Rider".
Good stuff.

Then yesterday afternoon I hear that he has just died. What?

So last night we had a few friends over and had a Dennis Hopper party. I'm almost recovered.

I had a Capt America poster on my wall.. black & white of him riding across a bridge, with the stars and stripes painted over in color.. Fonda was wearing a lightcolored shirt with a floral patern I think..

I bet a few of us had that poster.

It was pretty cool that night Fonda bought the guys we were riding with, a beer in that bar in Montana as he was leaving.. We came in right after.. probably bought a lot of riders beers I think the movie set him up pretty good. He likes the simple life in Montana, and back around then was riding a Beemer K bike..
