Okay im a looser I threw in the towel. Made an appointment for next week at the dealership. Mechanical no.problem. electrical scares the crap outta me. Im 99.9% sure everything is hooked up correctly. Maybe they will find what I effed up.

holy crap just totally had a eureka moment a sec ago outside. was sitting there looking and saying hey that white wire looks like a gray wire. well it was i had the turn signal hooked up to the voltage reg and the reg hooked up to the turn signal. two birds one stone. done. still running on 3 but i dont frickin care at the moment. i have a bike thats not going to die on me!!!!!!!! pics for my peops later.

I don't even want to estimate what a stealership would charge to go through the electrical system on one of these old bikes!

hey guess what she runs on all four. now for the sad part. still no going over 75 on the eway. i suspect either the clutch or my assumption that the sprockes were correct is wrong. just got new throttle cables, jeeze didnt realize how #$%*ty my old ones were. 600 bucks well spent at the dealer in my opinion. got out better than i thought.

yeah its finally runnin well. itll pull a wheelie in every gear.. puled a massive one by accident. i think the sprockets are the issue because i dont remeber checking to see if they were crrect. it does not feel like the clutch is slipping

Im not a big fan of the accidental wheelies. Used to have a blast doing them on my dirt bike though. Got the superbike bars on. The throttle cables are ok but the clutch is way too long. All my cables are brand new so ill deal with it for a bit. Gracefully dropped the bike on the ground. Nothing happened. It landed on grass. Just spilled some gas. Got some barend mirrors on as well. Ill post some pics. I want some different mirrors. Need new grips bad too.

ive traced my top speed issue to the clutch i believe. ive got the correct sprockets and the engine and ignition is sound. the only last thing i can think of is its the clutch. who has good sources for clutches. im looking at the cycle exchange clutch kit. 110 bucks but it comes with friction discs and specially coated plates. and the gasket and kickstart seal sounds like a deal to me

No kidding! Pulling wheelies in all 5 gears means it's either geared WAY down or some expert NASCAR engine builder worked over the engine!

15/41 stock. verified by my buddy riding beside me. clutch is deffinetly slipping it does t have any bite. waiting on a clutch nut socket then ill tear it apart. hopefully this weekend. maybe it just needs some torque. now i wish i had ordered the full gasket set. no expert motor builder here. i was just very mythodical in checking tolerances and replaced or repaired stuff that needed it. even with the slipping clutch i romp on my buddy in the quarter. hes got a 96ci twin cam harey. top end hes got me tho.

just thought of this i have a spare 78 motor ill pull the clutch outta that and see if its any good. supposed to be a "racing clutch" but who knows. the motor had oil in it but i have no idea on the last time it ran. hopefully this will be a fix as i dont exacly have the cash for a clutch at the moment.

Forgot what you had laying around did ya? It's funny how the answer is often hidden right in front of you...in a pile of $#!t. Good luck with the swap. I was thinking of gearing down as well, but hearing that you are "Accidentally" pulling wheelies in every gear gives me hope for the stock 15/41 combo.

yeah scared the crap outta me. i was a little quick with the clutch. but if you give it a fistful itll pick up the front wheel.... at least it did for me

The clutch is out. The friction discs measured within spec but the steel plates look almost burned. The friction discs are very dark and have crusty oil on em. Pics to come later today.

That bike is really coming together beautifully. The 1978 may seem like the least liked because it bridges the gap between the "quaint" CBs with the teapot tanks

and a modern motorcycle.
