I heard that phrase somewhere and started using it with my kids. Really confuses them because Bob IS their uncle and they wonder why I keep pointing that out.   :D

Being a K1W1 myself my favorite is 'Good on you mate'

a compliment, very blokey.

"My wife was on my case about mowing the lawns and cleaning the pool but Jimmy came around so we cracked some tinnies and had a yarn"

"good on yer mate"

Don't know if it is very common overseas except Australia....Cheers..

i don't know where i heard "good on ya" first, some movie maybe, was it from Mike Myers?... i do know that it came from "down under" and i've taken a liking to it as well...

so, now i'm wondering if i just offended my NZ buddies by calling it "down under"? is NZ offcially part of the "down under" thing, or is that reserved for Aussies only?  ???

sorry - no offense meant.

Last evening watched a short segment about an Australian couple that had modified an older van to run on vegetable oil, specifically, used veg oil from restaurants. Their goal was to drive across Texas for free on oil collected along the way. Of course it won't remain free if more folks do this, but that's another topic I guess. Anyway, painted across the the hood was "Bob's your uncle."

Loads.

Quite a lot of it comes from Cockney rhyming slang (or Monty Python)

Maaaaaaaaaaaate...........
To put the phrase 'Bob's your uncle' in context, in my part of the planet (south eastern Australia), it is used as a euphimism for'it will be ok' or 'it will work'. It has the same meaning as 'she'll be right'.
'Job's done' is pretty close too.
'No wuckers' is a common one as well around here. A contraction of 'no wucking furries', witch is aussie rhyming slang for 'no worries'. mate.

one of my favorite Southern expressions is one that allows the speaker to objectively criticize the most painfully obvious and embarrassing characteristic of another person out loud and in public without incurring any negative karma on him or herself - or without falling into the trap of being merely mean-spirited or spiteful, and it is this:

"...bless his heart."  just fire away at someone and as long as you tack this phrase on the end you are above any criticism or reprisal. this is a favorite of my grandmother, and what a cranky old boozer she is, bless her heart...

My pommie favorite is "Gordon Bennett", who drew crazy pictures, but another Gordon Bennett was a motorcycle racer in the U.K. I think??...I think the Cockney rhyming slang thing is Gordon equls God In (heaven) so instead of saying God In Heaven out of exasperation the Cockney says..Gordon Bennett...Correct me if I'm wrong, please...TC

Don't know where this came from, but I've heard it said of someone who's had too much to drink:
