Need Parts For Ascot VT500
« on: June 04, 2010, 04:12:00 PM »
Hey all, my wife Ofanoanit is having trouble locating some parts for her project.  Even new, not available.  Right now the critical part for the Ascot VT500 is a clutch cable.  Dealers said they can't order.  Even our local wrecker let us down for the first time.

If you've got parts or know where to find 'em, please let me know.

Is it a VT500, or an FT500? the FT was a single cylinder bike, the VT a V-twin. Also the model year probably matters, the early 80's were a time of great change year to year on some models.

This came up near the top of my FT500 search: http://compare.ebay.com/like/350358133058?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes

And one for a VT500C:   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-VT500C-VT500-VT-500-C-CLUTCH-CABLE-MOTION-PRO-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem414f078cc5QQitemZ280498769093QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

And from looking at bike bandit, the 1982 Honda FT500 is still available, the 83 VT and FT are still available, the 1984 Honda VT500C SHADOW is still available, but the 1984 Honda VT500FT SHADOW is not available, the 1985 Honda VT500C is no longer available.

I hope this helps a little.

If no luck with the above suggestions, you can contact Barnett.  They can make you up a cable.  Helps if you have the old one.

I think so.  I'm not interfering with the project; but once she gets it running I am willing to play test pilot.   ;D

Looks like a fun little scoot.

Shaft.  This is our first shaft drive bike.  All the others that I've ridden were larger motors.  I'm curious to see how it rides.  Eventually, Honda did away with shaft drive on the smaller displacement bikes.

Hey Jona, thanks!

I'll be in Israel next month, for a month of work in Yerushalayim.  I don't know if I'll get up to Haifa or not.

Jordan,  thanks for that tip.  I'll pass it on to my wife.

I'll be at Shaarei Tzedek the entire month, at the medical ethics center; Machon Schlesinger.  Email me your phone #.  When I first get in I'll probably be in Rehovot to spend Shabbat with friends from Weizmann.

You should be able to get a new cable from any Parts-n-More dealer.  I have one on my '83 VT500FT.  Its a great bike for errands and short cruises. At 5,000 RPM and a hand full of throttle it goes about as fast as you can shift gears. 6th is overdrive. It gets better than 60 mpg when taking it easy. My clock showed 105 in 5th but it would not hold over 95 in 6th.

Thanks Dennis for the tip.  I am dutifully passing all on to my wife.  I'm just waiting till this thing runs and I can test it.   ;)
