My First Ride!
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:59:03 PM »
Recent 750 Newbie here, after 3 or 4 days of practicing everything I'd learned in my recent riding course, today I took my first real ride outside of my subdivision. It was only a short 4 mile loop, but it felt great to get her out, and yes, I finally got that #$%*-eating grin on my face that I'd seen other riders have when they ride. When was the last time you saw an angry rider? Of course I took those turns like an old man and watched every car that approached the intersection and made it back home safely. Tomorrow, I'll venture out a little further. Photos will follow eventually.

what a great feeling it is to ride for the first time on a bike you fixed.

Don't ride with other people for a while ....  Ride your ride....  in all the gear... who cares if it's not cool.... wear a Real helmet... ( in other words don't look like a pirate on a half shell )

Take your time and Always stay vigilant .... 4 wheelers want to eat you....

Wave at other riders who share your passion ... (the Harley guys that won't wave at you are simply to scared to take thier hand off the bars...)

Seems like everyone covered it pretty well, make some plans to a local destination at an off peat traffic time, then make another stop somewhere before heading home.  Gradually widen the distance between stops and your riding skills will grow too.

Paul, for the record, I can't take any credit for fixing my bike up, I just bought a few weeks ago and she came to me well maintained by the previous owner.  Actually I'm no sure how much I'll be working on it since my time is very compressed, full time job, kids and two other passions, my painting and my music, so for the most part I'll be leaving the maintenance of my girl to experienced  mechanics. I hope that doesn't  make me look like a wuss to all of you hard core mechs.  As time goes on I'll make the time to learn how to perform at least the basic stuff, until then I just want kick that starter and ride  as much as possible.  Keith, yeah I doubt of those Harley riders will give me the wave, since I am riding  non-American bike and  I do will wear all of my protective gear even though it's blazing hot in Atlanta now, better hot than hurt!

If you ever find the need for an nice weekend ride.... my driveway is 225 miles from the airport in Atlanta..

And I honestly don't care if you work on it so long as you enjoy riding it....  each of us picks the part of the hobby that attracts us....  Do what makes you free.... and enjoy...
