dedicated to you, Jerk Kid.
« on: June 04, 2010, 07:31:18 PM »
Alright.

Today I fired up my 75 cb550k for the first time this year. It hadn't rode it since last October when some jerk neighborhood kid stole it from my house parked in the alley. I havent taken any pictures yet, but i'll try to get em on here soon in a thread on the project board.

The bike wasnt locked to anything and the fork lock cylinder is rusted out . . . gotta get a new one.

The morning of October 3rd I went out back to run the bike and to my disbelief, it was gone. I called the police.

About a month and a half later, after I had given up hope of seeing it again, I get a phone call . . . It's the impound lot.

Now I've had to pay the $130 to get an '89 buick lesabre out of impound, and I would have rather left it there for those bastards to deal with, but they charged daily for storage. a terrible ordeal that left me salty towards the impound lot. However when I got that call I had to do the chicken dance, I was happy to get it back.

Some kid was arrested pushing it down the sidewalk at 3 AM that morning. Since It was a minor, they wouldn't give me a police report. I still have no good idea who dunnit, but it was recovered 14 blocks from my house. damn.

When I got to the impound, my heart sank. Mirrors gone, exhaust bent, lic plate broken off homemade lower shock mounted lic plate bracket, but wired onto the frame (horribly mangled), battery dead, right sidecover gone, front brake lever broken, the wire connector the ignition plugs into was compromised by stuffing pennies between the terminals to cross the circuits. had to work the terminals back into shape with a needlenosed pliers . . . dirty oil . . .

. . . Ignition Fuse replaced with a bolt . . . So I took the opportunity to try a Yuasa Battery. Changed the fuse, and tried a compression test. Starter cranks good, compression reads at only 130 tops, although all 4 cylinders read even.

Grudginly, I drain the oil (pitch black), drop the oil pan and clean the screen. I removed the valve cover. Oiled camshaft and valvetrain, put back together, got some gas. tried kickstarting it. no go. I did it with the points cover off and the crank isn't moving with the kickstarter. I tried the starter, started right up.

After I let it burn off some oil inside idling in my driveway I went around the block. Needs a new clutch, exhaust leaks . . . clown dropped it, not only onto the right side, to break the right 2 to 4 exhaust and brake lever, but onto the left side as well to break the mirror and license plate. I assume it was dropped when bastard kid was caught.

Then I noticed the headlight doesnt work, nor the taillight. I see wiring to the taillight burned to #$%*, but i havent taken apart the headlight yet. wiring disaster. Time for all new wiring.

also oil leaking from the oil pump. Degreased under left side cover and will see exactly where the leak is tommorrow . . .

If you're still reading this my name is Eric and I live in Minneapolis MN USA. And if YOU'RE reading this, jerk kid . . . you are very lucky that the authorities won't disclose your identity to me, or things would get ugly . . .

Why was your house parked in the alley?

That's where all city houses are parked, duh.

Welcome, I look forward to the project thread.

Just clout every likely looking kid around the block that looks capable of the theft, you may get lucky. ;D
The bolt being used as a fuse probably was the reason your lights are fried.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

my thoughts exactly. the wiring conundrum is the result of a series of unfortunate events.

Tell the cops that you intend suing for damages, his name has to come up sooner or later. Get a letter from a lawyer, that should start the ball rolling..
