no electrics blowing fuses
« on: June 01, 2010, 09:13:26 AM »
Hi all we had a very large problem at the thundersprint a few weeks ago.
Come sunday morning time to start up the bike (CR750) for Jim Redman only to find out the ign had been turnt on and left on all day/night sat, Fault found Battery flat used jump socket bike fired up, Then disconnected socket bike cut out and would not start at all and blew the 20amp fuse.
We tested the boyer ign circuit and found every time we connected the pick up coils it blew the fuse, thinking it was the boyer box we fitted a spare yup you got it the same.
I got out my spare bike for Jim, Moto Martin 24hr Endurance Bike but this was not the end of my fault.
I returned home and stripped the electrics down, The boyer was tested all ok ?.
I then looked at the bike electrics i tested all the wiring and ign/switch only to find that the regulator had burnt its contacts and was making connections on both sides this is where the fault was. (I run the standard charging curcuit for night running)
I replaced the regulator and alls well now. So for ref if your electrics short out in a big way check the regulator contacts. Next event SPA i cant ride as ive just had a hand operation out of action for 8 weeks.

Hey Clive,

Well that looks like my trouble, though with a Dyna "S". Bike ran great for my Dutch racing hero, only to run into trouble when the bike got on temp. Checked everything, but seems one of the pickups is gone.
You will not ride at Spa, but will you be there?
We talked shortly at Croix, at the photograph guy. Maybe you remember, talking about the lack of grip.

Cheers, Rob
Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.
